PyDev 5.9.2 Release Highlights - *Important* PyDev now requires Java 8 and Eclipse 4.6 (Neon) onwards. - PyDev 5.2.0 is the last release supporting Eclipse 4.5 (Mars). - *Debugger* - Integrated speedups for Python 3.6 which use the new Python hook which allows the debugger to add breakpoints through bytecode manipulation. - Some critical fixes related to issues in the latest debugger (#PyDev-837, #PyDev-838, #PyDev-817). - Added support for having isort as the engine for import sorting. - Fixed issue on text search with *Lucene* when the user had another plugin which also used lucene (*#PyDev-826*). - From this version onwards, PyDev is built with a proper certificate (previous versions used a self-signed certificate). - Google App Engine templates now working out of the box (patch by *Mat Booth*). - Optimization in editor highlighting when dealing with huge files. - Some bugfixes in pytest integration. - *cv2* added to forced builtins by default for working with OpenCV. - Fixed issue when parsing empty f-string. What is PyDev? PyDev is an open-source Python IDE on top of Eclipse for Python, Jython and IronPython development. It comes with goodies such as code completion, syntax highlighting, syntax analysis, code analysis, refactor, debug, interactive console, etc. Details on PyDev: http://pydev.org Details on its development: http://pydev.blogspot.com What is LiClipse? LiClipse is a PyDev standalone with goodies such as support for Multiple cursors, theming, TextMate bundles and a number of other languages such as Django Templates, Jinja2, Kivy Language, Mako Templates, Html, Javascript, etc. It's also a commercial counterpart which helps supporting the development of PyDev. There's no simple answer to that, I'm afraid. The libraries are not identical to those in any particular version of CPython. We have to modify some of them extensively. And it's a mixture that we use. The last time we imported the stdlib en masse was 2013 (2.7.4-ish). But we have made many selective additions from 2.7.11 and 2.7.13 (at least) since then. Hey! In Jython jar package there's Lib folder with many python libraries - *.py. Is it somewhere documented which versions of those libraries are there? (There's no way to check it basing on file itself) Thanks in advance :) Best, Krzysztof |

Lana, which NumPy version are you using? Only NumPy 1.12 or later are supported. Also note that Numpy support is not yet exhaustive. Many aspects don't work yet. -Stefan > Gesendet: Freitag, 28. Dear all I'm new to Jython. I read that now one shall be able to import numpy from Jython using JyNI. However in my case, the import failed as follows File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/numpy/__init__.py", line 153, in <module> from . import add_newdocs File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/numpy/add_newdocs.py", line 13, in <module> from numpy.lib import add_newdoc File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/numpy/lib/__init__.py", line 8, in <module> from .type_check import * ImportError: No module named type_check I'm using the eclipse plugin of jython (2-7) and the latest version of JyNI. I'm running it from linux RHEL 6.5 thanks for your help Lana |

Hey! Thanks again for you help and answers to my questions. I've just released the extension for XWiki that I was working for. XWiki has possibility to scirpt on its pages in Python. Under the hood it's Java Scripting API and Jython that takes care of running this script and returning result to page. Jython has implementation only for standard libraries. That's why I created Extension Repository Connector - Pypi - to be able to import to XWiki other (non-standard) python packages that are hosted on pypi: https://pypi.python.org/pypi. All this on running XWiki instance (without need to restart) - downloaded packages are simply made available for Java classloader. More about extension: http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Extension%20Repository%20Connector%20-%20Pypi/ about XWiki: http://www.xwiki.org/ Best, Krzysztof |

Hey! Thanks for previous answers to my question! I have another one. I found out that if a python package uses C libraries it cannot be used by Jython (https://stackoverflow.com/a/13684001/4703098). There are plenty of such libraries - such as e.g. numpy. So there won't work by default. But does Jython implement and contain some common c libraries to make such common cPython packages working? Or is there any other workaround? Best, Krzysztof |

Jython 2.7.1 is the implementation of Python 2.7, so that's what you should be using. Eggs and wheels are both pure Python package formats and work well on Jython 2.7. In particular, the distribution of Jython 2.7.1 uses the standard wheels for both pip and setuptools from upstream PyPA development. But if I had to pick, I would go for the wheel format. To clarify the case: what I have already done is successful import of python library via Jython. Now question that I have is which version of python library will be the safest to use with Jython 2.7.1. Hello! I'm contributing to XWiki open source project http://www.xwiki.org/. XWiki platform apart from many wonderful features allows for scripting in python on its pages. Under the hood it's Jython execute the python script. My current task is to enable installing packages form PyPi repository (making them available for Java classloader in XWiki instance) so that they can be imported by Jython in any python script. The doubt that I have is what the version of package should be for given version of Jython. 1) The version of Jython that we use is 2.7.1. Then, should the python packages be compatible with python 2.7? 2) Is there any documentation page where I could get to know more on this topic? 3) Does it make any difference if package is in .egg or .whl format? Thanks in advance for help! Best, Krzysztof Płachno |

I have a process that uses Jython to check that files are being checked into a SCM using the correct line ends (its a Java test that uses Jython, embedded using JSR 223, to run 29057 tests. So it looks like we will need a RC3 for Jython 2.7.1, given the following two bugs: - http://bugs.jython.org/issue2596 - Linebreaks in exceptions are wrong - PENDING - http://bugs.jython.org/issue2593 - file.write(obj) if obj is not a str or buffer raises j.l.NullPointerException - OPEN #2596, now fixed in master, is just the sort of bug that may scramble existing user tests (although multi-line messages are relatively rare). #2593 has an easy path to raising a NullPointerException that can come up in common Python code. But it should be very straightforward to guard against, so we should have a fix for it momentarily I would assume. And that is it. There are exactly 301 other bugs that are open, as I write this email, so clearly we have plenty of work to consider in the future. But in my judgment, we are about there for a final release. But it's still not too late to submit a bug against RC2! Please test against the download links on Frank's blog post: http://fwierzbicki.blogspot.com/2017/06/jython-271-rc2-released.html - Jim |

PyDev 5.8.0 Release Highlights - *Important* PyDev now requires Java 8 and Eclipse 4.6 (Neon) onwards. - PyDev 5.2.0 is the last release supporting Eclipse 4.5 (Mars). - *Code Analysis* - Fixed issue getting existing PyLint markers. - There's now an Info and an Ignore level. - *Debugger* - The debugger now provides hooks for clients and provides ways to extend the handling of custom types. See: https://github.com/fabioz/PyDev.Debugger/tree/master/pydevd_plugins/extensions (patch by *Yuli Fiterman*). - Fixed issue where the debugger could end up removing quotes on args. *#PyDev-797* - The debugger now works with IronPython again -- although note that *IronPython* *2.7.6* and *2.7.7* have a critical bug which prevents IronPython from working in PyDev: https://github.com/IronLanguages/main/issues/1663 - *Code Coverage* - Fixed issue getting code-coverage version. *#PyDev-791* - Properly works when running with pytest (provided that pytest-cov is installed). - *Others* - Update .yaml file for google app engine project templates (patch by *JunjieW*). - Upgraded Lucene to 6.1.0 (patch by *Sopot Cela*). - Update docstring from parameters (Ctrl+1 on *def*) properly considers sphinx with types. *#PyDev-787* - Code Completion: Properly finding *__init__* from superclass in inherited classes. *#PyDev-802* - No longer showing icon to start interactive console in toolbar because Eclipse could end up creating multiple entries which were shown forever. *#PyDev-708* - Other minor bugfixes. What is PyDev? PyDev is an open-source Python IDE on top of Eclipse for Python, Jython and IronPython development.
