PyDev 6.1.0 Release Highlights - *Important* PyDev now requires Java 8 and Eclipse 4.6 (Neon) onwards. - PyDev 5.2.0 is the last release supporting Eclipse 4.5 (Mars). - *Code Formatter* - The PyDev code formatter can now add/remove blank lines to comply with pep-8. - Added preference to skip blank lines formatting. - *Editor* - Editor now tolerant against errors in the definitions of style ranges. - When in link mode (after a code completion with params for instance), properly skip closing parenthesis if already well balanced. - Fix logic error in editor preferences for disabling subword navigation (patch by *Stuart Berg*). - *Others* - Using *python -m 'pip'* when unable to find pip executable in interpreter preferences (*#PyDev-853*). - PyDev set next statement action set no longer disables Debug action set (*#PyDev-859*). - It's possible to silence question about saving resources before a refactoring operation. - Add problem markers for python files that declare invalid encodings (patch by *Mat Booth*). - Other minor bugfixes. What is PyDev? PyDev is an open-source Python IDE on top of Eclipse for Python, Jython and IronPython development. It comes with goodies such as code completion, syntax highlighting, syntax analysis, code analysis, refactor, debug, interactive console, etc. Details on PyDev: http://pydev.org Details on its development: http://pydev.blogspot.com What is LiClipse? LiClipse is a PyDev standalone with goodies such as support for Multiple cursors, theming, TextMate bundles and a number of other languages such as Django Templates, Jinja2, Kivy Language, Mako Templates, Html, Javascript, etc. It's also a commercial counterpart which helps supporting the development of PyDev. Erik, this might be related to http://bugs.jython.org/issue2614. Anyway, I think it would be best to file a new issue at http://bugs.jython.org about this. This way it won't get lost. Make sure to provide all info you gave in this email. Best, Stefan > Gesendet: Dienstag, 03. I’m trying to set the following in my Jython script: System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore", "development.jks"); System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", "changeit"); System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStoreType", "jks"); System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", "developmentTrusted.jks"); System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword", "changeit"); System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType", "jks"); System.setProperty("javax.net.debug", "ssl”); Which works fine, in the essence of the script. I can even print out the get for each of the properties, and they look proper. When I look into the ssl logs, I see that the trustStore get properly loaded into the JVM: trustStore is: developmentTrusted.jks trustStore type is : jks trustStore provider is : init truststore adding as trusted cert: ... At no point am I seeing the keyStore get loaded into the JVM. When I run this in pure Java, I see the following, which is what is missing from the Jython logs: keyStore is : development.jks keyStore type is : jks keyStore provider is : init keystore ... The issue I’m running into is that I’m not able to properly pass client certificates when the script is required to pass a client certificate to an API or load balancer. I get the following exception in my ssl logs: *** CertificateRequest Cert Types: RSA, DSS, ECDSA Supported Signature Algorithms: SHA512withECDSA, SHA512withRSA, SHA384withECDSA, SHA384withRSA, SHA256withECDSA, SHA256withRSA, SHA256withDSA, SHA224withECDSA, SHA224withRSA, SHA224withDSA, SHA1withECDSA, SHA1withRSA, SHA1withDSA Cert Authorities: <Empty> *** ServerHelloDone Warning: no suitable certificate found - continuing without client authentication *** Certificate chain <Empty> *** Is there an issue with loading a custom keystore with Jython? What is the proper way to load a custom keystore using Jython? I’m using Jython 2.7.1 and Java 1.8. Cheers - Erik . |

Thanks a lot Stefan for your support. Yes that issue is also same raised by my team. No, we have never seen this issue anywhere, this is first instance directly from customer environment. We have tried to simulate this issue in our local setup, but couldn't other systems also tried but not seen this issue. Could you please let me know which configuration are you stressing here, can you supply commands to check configurations? Ivan: Glad that works for you. Do be aware you are working with the edge in taking it from the repo tip. I think it's in good shape at the moment but you are the first person to have built an installer or standalone jar from that particular configuration. We'd all like to release more often, and we were discussing a 2.7.2 soon, partly because of this fix. But then we're always saying that kind of thing. :p Jeff On 26/09/2017 21:32, Ivan Ponomarev via Jython-users wrote: > Dear Stefan, > > thank you for your quick and comprehensive answer! > > It really works, I'm able to build the freshest Jython from source and > solve our dependency issues! Dear Ivan, Jython is conveniently built using ant: ant installer or ant jar-standalone should do the trick to get the installer or standalone jar respectively. So there are no further requirements than JDK 7 or 8 (9?) and ant. While it is said to be possible to configure an IDE to get the build done I found it very complicated and never really got it right (e.g. for eclipse). So I'd recommend to simply stick to plain ant command line. Best, Stefan > Gesendet: Dienstag, 26. Hi all! How can we get current build of Jython? Instructions found here http://www.jython.org/archive/21/docs/compile.html seems to be very old and outdated. Our problem is that 2.7.1 version is unusable for us because of http://bugs.jython.org/issue2609 that I reported and that is now marked as fixed. As we know it takes years for new releases of jython, so there is no point waiting for the next release. As a workaround, we were using 2.7.1b3 (that is not affected by the bug), until stumbled upon the problem with outdated version of jnr.posix library that is included into jython 2.7.1b3 jar. Dear All, I have an issue with calling java varargs function from jython. I use Jython 2.7.0 from ImageJ. My Java function expects Object... as parameter. When calling it from jython everything goes fine unless one of the parameter is a list. In that case the script complains that the Java function expects a single parameter but received more. I put a toy example below to illustrate. If anyone has idea to circumvent that issue, I'd be really grateful. In practice I am trying to write a small library in Java to wrap some image analysis functions. The goal is to make the function easy to use for people getting started with scripting. Basically I try to avoid java import in the script as well as conversions or unecessary syntax that could be confusing to beginners. Ideally I'd like user to pass for instance an image and a list of number (representing the size of a voxel or a filter size for instance) and the jython list would be interpreted on the Java side as List<Float> or Float[]. Any advice to go in that direction would be super welcome. Thanks! Benoit // java side public class myClass{ public void test( Object... args ){ for(Object object : args) System.out.println( object.toString() ); } } # jython side import myClass myClass().test("hello", 1 ) # this works fine myClass().test( [ 1, 1 ] ) # this works fine too myClass().test("hello", [ 1 , 1 ] ) # this crashes with: "TypeError: test(): expected 1 args; got 2" myClass().test( [ "hello", [ 1 , 1 ] ] ) # seems to work too PS: I've seen that putting all the parameters in a list would be workaround. By chance does jython 2.7.1 would allow to avoid these additionnal bracket? -- Benoit Lombardot, PhD Bio-Image Informatics team leader Scientific Computing Facility Max Planck Institute CBG Pfotenhauer Str. 108, 01307 Dresden room: 009 (CSBD) phone: +49 351 210 2544 |

With JyNI alpha 5, I proudly announce the first version of JyNI that also runs on Windows. JyNI is a layer that allows Jython to load native CPython extensions. Most notably ctypes and NumPy are already workable (core functionality). Take a look at jyni.org or go directly to the release: https://github.com/Stewori/JyNI/releases/tag/v2.7-alpha.5 Binaries are provided for Linux, OS X and Windows. It should in principle also work on other POSIX platforms. NumPy support ------------- >From JyNI alpha 4 onwards, some NumPy support is available. For JyNI alpha 5 featuring Windows support, we explicitly asserted that NumPy works on Windows equally well as on Linux and OS X, i.e. up to known limitations. For details about NumPy support see https://github.com/Stewori/JyNI/releases/tag/v2.7-alpha.4 https://github.com/Stewori/JyNI/issues/2 Google Summer of Code --------------------- JyNI alpha 5 was mainly developed within a Google Summer of Code project: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/projects/#4931062149939200 http://gsoc2017-jyni.blogspot.de for details. What comes next? ---------------- The Python C API is not yet fully supported. A major goal for the next release is to add support for the buffer protocol, which is currently blocking support for SciPy and various other extensions. Enjoy! -Stefan |

Is there a functional daemon module for Jython? I used the built in daemon.DaemonContext() some time ago and it seemed to work, but now it wants the resource package which is not available in Jython. > >>> from daemon import DaemonContext > Traceback (most recent call last): > File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> > File "/opt/jython-2.7.0/Lib/site-packages/daemon/__init__.py", line > 42, in <module> > from .daemon import DaemonContext > File "/opt/jython-2.7.0/Lib/site-packages/daemon/daemon.py", line > 26, in <module> > import resource > ImportError: No module named resource Thanks Bob |

In situations like that, you may have to revert to Java reflection to access the appropriate method or field of a Java class. I didn't look at your PApplet, so these might not be completely correct, but something like this should get you close. class test(PApplet): def __init__(self): self.mousePressedField = PApplet.getDeclaredField('mousePressed') self.mousePressedMethod = PApplet.getDeclaredMethod('mousePressed',[]) # Argument types go in the [] def draw(self): fieldValue = self.mousePressedField.get(self) if fieldValue: # Maybe need to invoke the method now? self.mousePressedMethod.invoke(self,[]) # Argument values go in the [] On Mon, 11 Sep 2017 18:10:24 -0500, Cristian Danilo Ramirez Vargas <rvc...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, Im Cristian. > Im working in Jython for use the processings core but I have a problem to > translate this example https://processing.org/tutorials/gettingstarted/ > [1] to Jython, because the class PApplet have a method and an attribute > with the same name (mousePressed). > The PApplets source code is: > https://github.com/processing/processing/blob/master/core/src/processing/core/PApplet.java > [2]. > And the code that I have is: > from processing.core import PApplet > class test(PApplet):def settings(self):self.size(480, 120) > def draw(self): if self.mousePressed: self.fill(0) > else: print type(self.mousePressed) self.fill(255) > self.ellipse(self.mouseX, self.mouseY, 80, 80)if __name__ == > "__main__":processingArgs = ["test"]myProcessingSketch = > test()myProcessingSketch.runSketch(processingArgs) > Thank you for your time (and sorry for the bad english :p) > > Links: > ------ > [1] https://processing.org/tutorials/gettingstarted/ > [2] > https://github.com/processing/processing/blob/master/core/src/processing/core/PApplet.java |

Hi, I'm Cristian. I'm working in Jython for use the processing's core but I have a problem to translate this example https://processing.org/tutorials/gettingstarted/ to Jython, because the class PApplet have a method and an attribute with the same name (mousePressed). The PApplet's source code is: https://github.com/processing/processing/blob/master/core/src/processing/core/PApplet.java . And the code that I have is: from processing.core import PApplet class test(PApplet): def settings(self): self.size(480, 120) def draw(self): if self.mousePressed: self.fill(0) else: print type(self.mousePressed) self.fill(255) self.ellipse(self.mouseX, self.mouseY, 80, 80) if __name__ == "__main__": processingArgs = ["test"] myProcessingSketch = test() myProcessingSketch.runSketch(processingArgs) Thank you for your time (and sorry for the bad english :p) |

Ivan, Darjus Loktevic and I worked on Clamp (https://github.com/jythontools/clamp), which is a project to support such packaging and other functionality, but it's not been updated for 3 years. But it still works fine. Just keep in mind its documented limitations. We would be open to any PRs against Clamp - there are a lot of things that can be done, per https://github.com/jythontools/clamp#todo - Jim On Mon, Sep 4, 2017 at 4:33 AM, Ivan Golovko <ioa...@gm...> wrote: > Hi all, we use Jython as a scripting engine inside a Java app. Besides > our Java classes, we would like to provide people who write scripts with > certain code written in Python, e. g. function decorators. Hi all, we use Jython as a scripting engine inside a Java app. Besides our Java classes, we would like to provide people who write scripts with certain code written in Python, e. g. function decorators. We need to package our Jython code in jar to do this. But plaintext.py (as instance) files won’t work. We tried jython-compile-maven-plugin <http://mavenjython.sourceforge.net/compile/index.html>, but it appears to be outdated and not working. Help us find a solution. In details. 1. We have a java application that is built by maven. 2. There are some *.py *filies in the resource directory. 3. A running application can work with external *.py *files. We want external *.py* files to be able to use jython modules from the resource directory. -- С уважением, Иван Головко |

Hi Claude, > Tensorflow API package which could also work as a transfer mechanism > between the Java and Python spaces TensorFlow is great. However, I believe it uses standard JNI which copies the data over the bridge. Recently, the ImgLib2 community has developed a component called ImgLyb which bridges ImgLib2 with CPython via PyJNIus [1] without requiring a copy. For details, see the website [2]. ImgLyb also works in Jython via JyNI [3], so as JyNI matures the situation will get better and better. Hi Yaqiang, > Another way is to develop Numpy like functions using Java and Jython. A powerful N-dimensional array computing library written in Java is ImgLib2 [1]. It is the core image processing library of ImageJ [2], which integrates with Jython as a scripting language [3]. The ImageJ application provides a script editor in which Jython can be used, and ImageJ can be invoked from Jython scripts via its API.
