I produce The Project Management Podcast™ and the ™ (tm
- trademark) symbol is part of the name in my feed at
http://www.thepmpodcast.com/pmpodcast.xml. A listener
of my show reported the following:
----------
It seems the Unicode character you use to create the
"TM" character in
the name of the podcast is really bothering Juice.
This is causing a
number of failures, making the podcast almost
impossible to use.
At the moment, when Juice is accessing your feed, a
podcast gets
downloaded. It reaches 100%, but never completes. The
file does not
get saved in the directory, although the Juice database
thinks it's
there (the channel size increases). Upon shutdown of
Juice, the
following error appears in the Juice log:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "iPodderGui.pyc", line 3062, in OnCleanupFeedChoice
File "iPodderGui.pyc", line 3091, in
PopulateCleanupEpisodes
File "ipodder\history.pyc", line 672, in
pretty_name_from_path
File "ipodder\history.pyc", line 23, in mkfilenamekey
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode
character u'\u2122' in
position 99: ordinal not in range(128)
Since Juice stores podcasts in directories named after
the channel, I
have a big hunch that your use of the Unicode character
is not getting
handled correctly by the software as it attempts to
deal with an OS (in
my case, WinXP) that may not support Unicode characters
in a filename
without a special call or without special support.
----------
I do not use juice and don't know, if his assessment is
correct, but I wanted to make you aware of it.
Thanks!
