I've just added an option that should make it easier to use jdp. jdp can't break in a method until it has been compiled. The mechanism that I just added allows you to get control just after a method has been compiled and before it is executed. Suppose I want to step through methodFoo. On the command line, I would say: -X:base:method_to_break=methodFoo // This uses the same matching rules as method_to_print Then, under jdp, I'd set a breakpoint in breakStub // This new method will only be invoked based on the method_to_break option When I stop in breakStub, I'd then be able to set a breakpoint in methodFoo itself.
