**************************************************************** * Call for Contributions * * * * Day school / Workshop on * * Language and Runtime Support for Concurrent Systems * * http://www.mm-net.org.uk/workshop171008/ * * * * Microsoft Research Cambridge UK, Friday 17th October 2008 * **************************************************************** We are pleased to announce a day school / workshop on language and run-time support for concurrent systems. Transactional memory will be a particular focus of the day, and there will be presentations from leading researchers in this field, such as Tim Harris (Microsoft Research Cambridge) and Tony Hosking (Purdue University). The workshop will include introductory talks, presentations of research and discussions of future research directions. However, we welcome contributions on topics other than transactional memory, including but not limited to: - memory management for concurrent systems - compilers for concurrent systems - hardware and operating support for concurrency - debuggers and other tools We aim to strengthen the network of researchers and developers, as a resource to improve all our results -- be they in research or commercial application. If you have a new result, tool, or war-story, the workshop is an ideal informal setting to spread the word about it. To contribute a talk or demonstration, please contact the organiser, Richard Jones, University of Kent. Slots can be of any reasonable length: please feel free to discuss it with the organisers. The day will run from 10am to 5pm. Researchers and developers are welcome to attend; there is no attendance fee, but registration is required. The workshop will be held at Microsoft Research, Cambridge, UK, who are kindly hosting the workshop. Lunch and coffee/tea will be provided. CONTRIBUTIONS AND REGISTRATION Talks on all aspects of language and run-time support for concurrent systems will be considered. If you wish to offer a talk or to attend, please contact the organiser: Richard Jones, University of Kent <R.E...@ke...> Deadline for contributions: 3 October 2008 Presentation of recent and ongoing work is welcomed: workshop presentations are not considered to be publications of original research (thus do not present a bar to submissions to other conferences or journals). Informal demonstrations of working systems and tools are also welcomed. FURTHER INFORMATION The workshop will be held at the Microsoft Research, Cambridge, UK on Friday the 17th of October, 2008. The day will run from 10am to 5pm. Cambridge has an award-winning Park&Ride service, and good public transport connections. There is some advice on travel and accommodation if you plan staying overnight at http://www.mm-net.org.uk/workshop171008/ This workshop has been organised by MM-NET. MM-NET is a network of researchers, interested in memory management for programming languages. The project's mission is to strengthen collaboration between UK industry and academia to further research and development of advanced memory management systems. MM-NET's previous workshops have been highly successful in this respect, bringing together researchers with interests ranging from logics for reasoning about memory use to developers of embedded systems. The organisers are very grateful to Microsoft Research for their generous support for this meeting, and to the EPSRC for supporting Tony Hosking's visit to the UK. |
