I cannot check this for some time as a) I'm on vacation for a few weeks
and b) I don't have a good client cert setup at the moment.

Definitely client certificates have been used in production 
environments, but not by me.  Search the mailing lists as there have 
been a few posts about it....  you may need to tweak the realm 
implementation???    I'll refresh my brain on this when I get back to a 
system with source code etc...
