plugin mgr: cannot set a mirror, sf.net plugin install always fails (probably because of the 5s delay & redirect+special download code there that started a couple of years ago). hope this hint helps. you might want to contact
java 7.3 je 5.3 vista x32.

    pick a mirror.
    "Error selecting mirror
    (x) Error auto-selecting mirror:
    java.lang.RuntimeException: Unexpected response: 301: from http://sourceforge.net/projects/jedit/files/latest/download
Choosing a specific mirror may work."

a 301 is an http redirect. the redirect is causing the problem. as I said, this is new. it used to be you could directly save files, but now you get something that is slow for others say in UK if you direct-pick a mirror from the USA.

Sourceforge.net just changed hands, perhaps they also changed some other things.
I am getting intermittant problems like this when downloading plugins, although I do not have problems getting the mirror list or selecting a mirror.

Also, I found that HEANet (ireland) works for downloading plugins, when a whole bunch of other mirrors failed. I'm not sure why that is.

I updated the mirror list to the current set of SF mirrors.
But most mirrors were still valid, just a handfull new and deleted ones.
I tried various plugins on various mirrors where the plugin existed on the mirror or did not exist on the mirror (not all mirrors have all files).
Everything works perfectly fine for me.
If a mirror has the file it is served, if it is not found, a double-redirect leads per round-robin to another mirror that has the file.
    Everthing works like expected here.
I assume the error Alan had with the plugin installation was maybe just an intermittent problem of SourceForge.

Moreover, I think what the OP describes has nothing to do with the plugin manager.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jedit/files/latest/download is not the URL of any plugin but of latest jEdit itself.
I assume he is using the Updater plugin and essentially is reporting a problem with that, rather than with the plugin manager which seems to work fine.
Thus I'm moving this bug to the plugins section.
