Hi, as your request I'm reporting some other issues I've encountered while programming with java-gnome: these are not really big ones, because with my little experience, I just haven't used the most of the classes which comes with java-gnome, but these are just the ones I've hitted. 1. If you use the AppBar, all is fine except that, if you also install menu hints, instead of the right hint you will end up with a lot of libgnomeui information strings sticked in the appbar, but only when the mouse hovers the main menu items i.e. file, edit,...etc. (If you want I can explain myself better with a couple of pics). 2. It seems there is a couple of visible bug in the TestGtk application: when you click on the toolbar button and on the handle box button the program crash with signal 11 with a long trace. I think these traces are easily reproducible, but again if you want I will post them. 3. In the TreeExample app, it cannot render a pixbuf on the tree. It complaints with this message: (java-gnome:5123): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file gvaluetypes.c: line 795 (g_value_set_pointer): assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_POINTER (value)' failed (java-gnome:5123): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file gvaluetypes.c: line 795 (g_value_set_pointer): assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_POINTER (value)' failed (java-gnome:5123): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: gobject.c:882: object class `GtkCellRendererPixbuf' has no property named `???/?hBx??H?+iB? ?<????8??H$????a?H' And finally, altought maybe it isn't a bug report, can we have chance to see the MessageDialog class finished? Thanks for all your great job :) Luca. -- Luca De Rugeriis <pie...@li...> |

I just checked in a fix for GListString and the Combo problem. I also checked in the latest patches for the build scripts. As you know, we hope to have a bug fix release in the next few days. Please let me know if there are any major issues you wish to see addressed prior to this release. -Jeff |

Hello. I'd like to know what are the standards you use in java-gnome when= =20 coding, both for C and Java. I'm using emacs, maybe you use something else? Right now I'm going with=20 "M-x c-set-style linux" for Java and "M-x c-set-style stroustrup" for C,=20 which seem to be quite close.. - xkr47 |

It was kind of a bummer. :-) > Elias btw have you tried using glade-2 to design the UIs? It works > great with java-gnome. It works great by the way, even though I would like some more control as to on which handler class the callbacks are called. Maybe there is, if so I'd love to know about it. I had to read the source and try to figure out how it was weant to work. Good work still. :-) > However, as I got a need to write a custom component myself (a complex > graph widget for plotting all sorts of data) I thought that I could > give it a try to implement the missing methods, or at least the most > important ones. I'll be waiting for it. :-) The test application I intended to write while learning java-gnome was a small paint program. And for that you need graphics methods. :-) Regards Elias |

If this is not an option (i.e. you really want the images to go in the jar file), perhaps you could extract the images to a temporary location when the application starts and have glade refer to these images. -- .''`. I was wondering how to go about using pixbufs in a java-glade project when all my resources are jarred up. I seem to be able to access the ".glade" file fine from inside the ".jar" but haven't had any luck with the image files referenced by the '.glade'. Would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction or tell me why it is impossible. Thanks in advance, Pchunt ps Sorry I originally sent this from the wrong account. |

Il mar, 2003-10-28 alle 00:23, Luca De Rugeriis ha scritto: Uhmm, maybe I need to comment it a little: The first patch adds an entry in the configure script for GCJFLAGS to be expanded that it was missing. The second patch cleans up the gtk_native ... install and uninstall targets: since when you choose gcj-compile the install targets are always: "gnome_install gnome_native_install glade_install glade_native_install" (if you choose gnome), the *native_install targets should not try to do stuff that was already done in the *normal* (not native) targets. So the many duplicated commands were removed. Jeffrey, do you think this patch is going to break something? During the port the primary focus was on the higher level functions and you are correct inyour assessment that the GDK layer support is not finished. There is an example of drawing to a window using the low level GDK functions in src/examples/gtk/mandel but I believe it is currently broken. It worked in the pre GTK2 days. -Jeff |

One more problem I ommited in my mail, would have gotten too long. The =20 problem is, taht gcj is invoked with "@GCJ_FLAGS@" or similar, but it =20 never gets substituted. You'll see that in the tewrminal right before =20 the error. The definition of this variable seems to be broken, but =20 simply removing it from the appropriate two commands in the Makefile =20 will solve this temporarily.
