Good point, users will be able to get a source tree with already generated cofigure scripts. I have to say that the source doesn't compile correctly: out of the box, I've ended up with only ligtk-java, ligtkvte-java, because of many unresolved symbols in the Gnome module, ad in the Glade module (as a consequence, either gconf or gtkhtml were not built). However, with such a slow hardware, I have't tracked the compilation process carefully (very long compile time). So I'll let you know if I still have problem on the net days, when hopefully I could build it on a faster pc. -- Luca De Rugeriis <pie...@li...> |

I have translated the web into Spanish and I am the web desinger. I also update the information about roadmap, news, screenshots,... but I think this work should be done by other person because I don't know about details of gnome bindings release, new schedule, stable vs development releases. Well. I create the html from xml files. Each xml file contains one section of the website translated into various languages. Throught an ant script and XSLT I transform these xml files into html files. Nicolas, I am going to send you the xml source files. Send me the translated files and I will update the website. Maybe this files should be in the cvs repository. Now, In the cvs repository is the old version of the web, could somebody delete the java-gnome-web and java-gnome-site directories in the cvs repository?? |

I agree, I've had to upgrade autoconf, it isn't even in last Fedora release, also if an older autoconf is used, it prints out only a strange message. However I think Mark's primary goal is having Java-Gnome included in the official list in time, then we should focus on having these major issue resolved asap. There is also a todo list for the build system: There are a few items on the build TODO though: - make gcj native builds optional -- at the moment, they are always built. - improve makefiles for the documentation packages - improve location detection of gtk jar file (for e.g. gnome tarball) - TEST - use autoconf < 2.58 (I'll suggest) -- Luca De Rugeriis <pie...@li...> |

There is an example on using a glade file in the cromagnon example app. The idea is to cast a widget retrived from libglade to the correct type then you have to manually add listener to each widget you want to catch event from. Let me know if this helps. -- Luca De Rugeriis <pie...@li...> |

I have just discovered that gcj is now a requirement to build java-gnome. I do not believe this is a good thing. This requirement and the requirement of autoconf 2.58 will mean that many developers will not be able to download and build the bindings without the headache of first building the tools. I think gcj build should be optional. If the developer does use this option then we could build the native versions of the jar files as well. What do you think? -Jeff |

The source for the vte Terminal JNI file is under the gnome package instead of the vte package. I didn't move the file since I am still a little unsure of the new build process. The java file is in the correct location. -Jeff |

What is it about the build that requires autoconf 2.58? If possible I think we should make a change to allow older versions of autoconf. This will be a problem on most distros. -Jeff |

Hello, I have a doubt about java-gnome eclipse plugin. How to let the plugin use my own glade generated file? I have tried to use a glade file that I have already used in a project which I started to develop in C and simply changing the name of it in the automatically generated MainWindow class of course isn't enough, can the plugin regenerate the skeleton of the callbacks? I would be very thankful if anybody could provide me a little hint on how a typical development use case should be. Fabrizio |

I think documenting ./genConf.. && ./genM.. && autoconf should be sufficient for now. build/maketarballs.sh does do this automatically so that tarballs have configure scripts in them. -- .''`. Excellent, thanks. Please note that I have moved most of the directories in cvs in the last few days to comply with gnome bindings release rules. I've also had to rewrite much of the configure and makefile system. Since we create multiple tarballs, the configure and makefiles are now generated using the ./gen* scripts, copying common sections from the common directory. > 1) The README file refers the user to an INSTALL file. I could submit a patch, if you need one ;) The tarball building tool will copy the documents to the toplevel directory for each tarball I did create a new readme documenting the changes. Unfortunately it's been overwritten by the old one. Thank's for spotting that. I will create a README.cvs file explaining a few of these new things. > 2) There is no configure script, and it doesn't seem to be documented > how to generate it. I think I fixed that in cvs earlier today - by using the CLASSPATH environment variable, although this has not been verified with kaffe yet. We cannot simply cd to the directory since there are multiple directories > All that being said, I look forward to run java-gnome apps on kaffe, > since I think gnome & java would mix well. I did try with kaffe once before (with my bugwatcher program, debian package debbuggtk), but jni support wasn't good enough. thanks -- .''`. Do you know about cvs? If so, please checkout the java-gnome-web module - this contains the html. It is html, but not the html that you see when you go to the website. If you don't know cvs and don't want to learn it, please say so and I'll put the files that need translating into a tarball for you. -- .''`. Hi all, due to Mark Wielaard calling out for people to test java-gnome with their VMs, I've decided to try out java-gnome from CVS with kaffe from CVS. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far, but I managed to spot some problems ;) 1) The README file refers the user to an INSTALL file. There is no INSTALL file in the java-gnome CVS top level directory. But there is one in common/INSTALL. I could submit a patch, if you need one ;) 2) There is no configure script, and it doesn't seem to be documented how to generate it. I've came up with the grand idea of running genConfigure.in, genMakefile.in and autoreconf, but that should be documented in the INSTALL file ;) Again, I could submit a patch, if necessary. 3) Finally, my configure run breaks due to bash-2.05a$ ./configure --with-kaffe --with-kaffe-prefix=/tmp/topic/current-jit3/ checking for gcc... gcc checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C compiler works... yes checking whether we are cross compiling... no checking for suffix of executables... checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking for gcc option to accept ANSI C... none needed checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c Add /tmp/topic/current-jit3//bin to path and check again. checking for kaffe... /tmp/topic/current-jit3//bin/kaffe checking for Kaffe - Java Version >= 1.1... yes checking for javadoc... /tmp/topic/current-jit3//bin/javadoc checking for javac... /tmp/topic/current-jit3//bin/javac checking for kaffe... /tmp/topic/current-jit3//bin/kaffe checking for jar... /tmp/topic/current-jit3//bin/jar checking for main in -libs... no checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config checking for gtk+-2.0 >= 2.2... Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gtk+-2.0' found configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.2) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. I have no idea what `gtk+-2.0.pc' is or where I can find it. Any pointers or ideas where to search for the file? 4) The FAQ says that you're looking for someone who's been using kaffe to compile things to help out. Well, here I am ;) I've discussed the build failures Mark had with him on IRC, and I think currently, the problem when using kaffe's java compiler is that it doesn't know about the -sourcepath option. A way to fix that would be to avoid using -sourcepath altogether, and simply cd into the directory. Another way would be to (LN_S) the source files into a build dir, and compile from there. All that being said, I look forward to run java-gnome apps on kaffe, since I think gnome & java would mix well. All the best wishes for getting into the official GNOME binding set. cheers, dalibor topic |
