So far I have added the jni and glue code for the following new objects to the gtk packages from gtk2.3.1: ColorButton ComboBox ComboBoxEntry EntryCompletion BindingSet I also added a couple of new methods to Entry. I plan to add the jni and glue code for: FileChooser FileChooserDialog FileChooserWidget Our 2.5.1 tarballs are due on December 22nd. This means that I will be creating them in about 48 hours from now. The question I have is who is able to work on the public interface to the above classes? I would like to see as many of them completed by the 22nd as possible. -Jeff |

Hi, I'm going away at the weekend and will have no internet access for a while, so I'll miss the release unless you decide you want it tomorrow. I think we have everything in place though - it's just a matter of seeing how many of the new widgets we can add before making the tarballs. It's great to be getting so many emails about cvs commits. I've updated the buildtarballs script so the doc packages should build fine. Before making the 2.5.1 tarballs, two files need to be edited: common/configure.in.version build/maketarballs.sh These both list the version as 2.5.0+cvs - they need changing to 2.5.1 The tarballs should build as before with the maketarballs scripts. I'm not sure about the procedure for releasing to gnome - probably have to upload to some ftp server somewhere. I guess instructions will be sent to language-bindings list before the deadline. AFAIK, the only other thing we have to do is declare our modules to the gnome bindings list, so they can update the website. I think this is correct: cvs branch: HEAD (for all tarballs) tarball: libgtk-java CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/java-gnome/java-gnome/gtk/ Binding for: GTK+, pango, atk, gdk, glib tarball: libgnome-java CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/java-gnome/java-gnome/gnome/ Binding for: libgnome, libgnomeui, libgnomecanvas tarball: libglade-java CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/java-gnome/java-gnome/glade/ Binding for: libglade tarball: java-gnome-doc-core CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/java-gnome/java-gnome/doc-core/ tarball: java-gnome-doc-gnome CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/java-gnome/java-gnome/doc-gnome/ tarball: java-gnome-doc-glade CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/java-gnome/java-gnome/doc-glade/ Notes: - These packages build two ABI's - one for running applications in a JVM, one for running applications natively (compiled with gcj) - Other bindings are available; More are in the TODO list - An all-in-one tarball is also available containing everything. It sounds like we're saying > java-gnome 2.5.x will support all of and exactly 2.5.x, which is of > course complete rubbish - our .x development will be completely out of > step with upstream. I don't see this as such a problem. Most people who want the development release (2.5.x) will already be aware of the fact that the 5 means it is a development stream working toward 2.6. Perhaps we can go out of our way on the website to make this obvious. Users that get the 2.4.x version will only be interested in having the latest stable java-gnome release. > Similarly, for stable releases, if our version numbers are behind > upstreams, people will think we're out of date. If we're ahead, people > will think we're crazy. (stable point releases are bug fixes only, so > there's no way that upstream releases would affect our changes) Since there will be a stable release each 6 months I am not concerned with getting ahead of the upstreams. My concern is getting behind but I guess we have committed to staying current with the upstream when we decided to be a part of the bindings release. As far as the 2.x.y my view on the 'y' is stated in the previous paragraph. |

This release included initial gconf and libgtkhtml support. Also, I added event handling for the Entry widget as well as fixing the event handling for other widgets that had problems. We really should make a 0.8 branch in cvs so we can maintain a gnome 2.2 version of java-gnome while developing the latest version - few ppl will want to install developmental gnome releases just to use java-gnome. As the builds seem to be working, we should release 0.8.2 to give a wider test base and also let people know about our new schedule. Jeff - you're the only one with access to the sourceforge file release, so could you do this please? (please update cvs first - I've renamed the doc tarballs - java-gnome-doc-core, etc -- it will make gnome ppl happier) mkdir tmp cp java-gnome tmp ./tmp/java-gnome/build/maketarballs.sh That should work. If you send me the md5sums, I'll write an announcement email saying about gnome bindings release and send it to various announce lists. Has anything else changed since 0.8.1? After reviewing the libgnomeui bindings I discovered that we only needed to add one widget; PasswordDialog. I just wrote the jni layer. Perhaps somebody can write the public interface for this new class. It is in cvs. I also took a quick look at the libgnomecanvas bindings. It appears like we have near complete coverage of this library. The only question is "does it work?". Can somebody please take a look at these classes (org.gnu.gnome.Canvas*). I am about to look into the gtk bindings to make sure we are ready for Dec 22nd. -Jeff On Wed, 2003-12-17 at 20:15, Jeffrey Morgan wrote: > I am building the jars and shared objects without problems. > I am just failing while building a few of the docs (can't > locate the docbook scripts and has a problem creating > javadocs). I am building the jars and shared objects without problems. I am just failing while building a few of the docs (can't locate the docbook scripts and has a problem creating javadocs). I am about to review and update the libgnome and libgnomeui components. There are 17 classes from the libgnome-canvas library in the gnome package. I have translated the web into Spanish and I am the web desinger. I also update the information about roadmap, news, screenshots,... but I think this work should be done by other person because I don't know about details of gnome bindings release, new schedule, stable vs development releases. Well. I create the html from xml files. Each xml file contains one section of the website translated into various languages. Throught an ant script and XSLT I transform these xml files into html files. Nicolas, I am going to send you the xml source files. Send me the translated files and I will update the website. Maybe this files should be in the cvs repository. Now, In the cvs repository is the old version of the web, could somebody delete the java-gnome-web and java-gnome-site directories in the cvs repository?? |
