-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Icarus Verilog 0.9.7 is Available (August 26th, 2013) - ----------------------------------------------------- The developers are pleased to announce the next stable release in the 0.9 series, version 0.9.7. Icarus Verilog is a mostly complete implementation of the hardware description language Verilog, as described in IEEE Std 1364-2005. It also includes a number of user requested extensions. It is freely available (open source), is supported on most operating systems, and will be available as a precompiled package for many of these systems. Icarus Verilog 0.9.7 is primarily a bug fix release. Therefore, we recommend people using the 0.9.6 or earlier releases upgrade to 0.9.7 as soon as possible. Version 0.9.7 is the recommended version for all new users. More details, including known limitations, deviation from IEEE Std 1364-2005, where to obtain the source code, and links to some of the precompiled packages can be found in the Release Notes located here: <http://iverilog.wikia.com/wiki/Release_Notes_Icarus_Verilog_0_9_7> - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at icarus.com But I have promises to keep, http://www.icarus.com and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://www.enigmail.net/ iEYEARECAAYFAlIbi4kACgkQrPt1Sc2b3ik47wCfZTNT7udYPWUCpNc0kKJiGVO1 M1sAnigg0Y/Q49WfkQ9rz0BeHg8Mt9Vp =DU0z -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 As of today, the Icarus Verilog GIT source code repository is hosted on github.com. There was a mirror there for a long time, and I've simply defined that repository to be the master. In the mean time, the copy on icarus.com will be decommissioned. See the documentation at <http://iverilog.icarus.com> for the new git URL and clone instructions. If you wish to switch an existing repo to the new URL, see the instructions that I posted to iverilog-devel mailing list. Post issues with the switch to iverilog-devel for support. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 This is (hopefully) the last release of Icarus Verilog 0.8. The next major releases will be in the 0.9 series. The 0.8.7 release wraps up all the various Verilog fixes for the 0.8 series into legacy-style packaging. This new packaging will allow it to co- exist with versions from newer series. Take special note that the configure script for 0.8.7 enables the build suffix mode (--enable-suffix=-0.8) by default. This automatically builds and installs with unique names so that it does not conflict with new releases coming down the road. This is indented to reduce or eliminate your risk when it comes time to upgrade to 0.9. The source and initial RPMS for Icarus Verilog 0.8.7 are available here: <ftp://ftp.icarus.com/pub/eda/verilog/v0.8/verilog-0.8.7.tar.gz> <ftp://ftp.icarus.com/pub/eda/verilog/v0.8/verilog-0.8.7-0.src.rpm> SPECIAL NOTE TO PACKAGE MAKERS!!! In order to support the overlap of this 0.8 series with the 0.9 series to come, please package verilog-0.8.7 as verilog08 and use the --enable-suffix=-0.8 configure option. The verilog.spec included in the tar bundle does this (note all the new file names) and the sample RPMS in the above repository are build properly. If you name the package for verilog-0.8.7 as verilog08, then a coming 0.9 release will not replace verilog08. If you package verilog-0.8.7 with the --enable-suffix=-0.8, then the files will not conflict either. Thus, verilog-0.8.7 and verilog 0.9.x can co-exist. This is an important feature of this release. - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at icarus.com But I have promises to keep, http://www.icarus.com and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFJPzygrPt1Sc2b3ikRAgjnAJ4iGhJtd3XduwW88hfyHBQr0Rd7/gCgh+4A yNeI09WyJPYck+0ZCbgLwV4= =NiJu -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've successfully simulated a non-trivial PCI device using my new simbus package, so I think it's time to make the first snapshot: <ftp://ftp.icarus.com/pub/eda/simbus/snapshots/simbus-20081125.tar.gz> <ftp://ftp.icarus.com/pub/eda/simbus/snapshots/simbus-20081125.txt> I've also started wiki documentation at: <http://iverilog.wikia.com/wiki/SIMBUS> This snapshot includes the ability to connect pci device and host models written in Verilog and/or C/C++. The models are each in their own processes, and need not even be on the same computer, which allows you to split the simulation of your larger modeled system across a network of computers. I use simbus by writing my "host" testbench in C/C++ to test my PCI device written in Verilog. The C/C++ binding abstracts PCI commands so that it is fairly easy to write code to interact with the bus. It is also fairly easy to write and test driver code for your device, then port it to an operating system later. The package includes an example PCI memory device that can be a target and even a bus master when properly configured. This device, the pcimem device, is useful in particular as a target for the PCI device you are testing. The source for the pcimem device also demonstrates how you would connect your own PCI device model to simbus. * Future plans/Ideas A system builder tool would be helpful. It's a little clunky to assemble the server configuration file and start all the processed by hand. Support for other bus types. I'm likely to add CameraLink because our boards typically have CameraLink interfaces, but I can see the value of supporting I2C, Wishbone, AMBA, etc. - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at icarus.com But I have promises to keep, http://www.icarus.com and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFJLFCqrPt1Sc2b3ikRApCtAKCqIpqx51LZ7vG53eYPPtatUu/5wACgmF1E 33b9rLqlTe2Na1hAq64AonI= =Z/ub -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 This snapshot is a fairly big work. There was a large period of instability between the 20080905 and this snapshot, so I'm sure this moment has been eagerly awaited. Also, discussions are starting to take place on the iverilog-devel mailing list and the iverilog.wikia.com Development Time Line documentation wiki page, so if you have opinions WRT the handling of the upcoming 0.9 release or the soon-to-be-legacy 0.8 series, now's the time to start paying attention. The snapshot files are here: <ftp://ftp.icarus.com:/pub/eda/verilog/snapshots/verilog-20081118.txt> <ftp://ftp.icarus.com:/pub/eda/verilog/snapshots/verilog-20081118.tar.gz> I've also made RPMs for SuSE 10.3 in the "precompiled/" subdirectory. Package Builders Note!!! The upcoming 0.9 release will have some installation target changes, notably for the installed C/C++ header files. Package Builders Note!!! The upcoming 0.8.7 legacy release will have some even bigger installation target changes, as it will be put into a new product (iverilog08) to support legacy installation, and to support being installed along with the new 0.9 release when it comes out. - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at icarus.com But I have promises to keep, http://www.icarus.com and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFJJb/krPt1Sc2b3ikRAvcLAJ9vzkSTLMP9E7henBkno4ClsaJViQCg20zM 136oB6FJ82DxDJuToF+sJQk= =F3/Z -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 For those who are interested, we've settled on 5:00pm, 24 October for the Icarus Verilog mini-summit. This is a get-together of some of the Icarus Verilog developers to have pizza and discuss the development of Icarus Verilog. Anyone interested in attending, please let me know directly. I need to know in advance so that I can run out and get pizzas. ~ Location: Oakland, CA (Montclair) ~ Time: 5:00pm - ? ~ Date: 24 October 2008 - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at icarus.com But I have promises to keep, http://www.icarus.com and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFI/NrqrPt1Sc2b3ikRAlGfAJ968SsijNS2aWjvIfesswQheAsjkgCfUFA2 6iA0+TWQ9Zhta5f4tzeX5KM= =c4uH -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The Icarus Verilog 20080830 snapshot had some ugly problems, so we fixed the important problems and put together another snapshot. Other then a minor fix to the input syntax, this snapshot is all bug fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have posted snapshot 20080830 to the FTP site, along with release notes. We are making much progress, including our star GSoC task of creating a VHDL code generator. Anyone who has a need to convert Verilog to VHDL (for various nefarious reasons I'm sure) should check it out! We are starting to think about what will be in the 0.9 release proper. Those discussions are taking place on the iverilog-devel list, so if you have an opinion, that's the place to voice it. There are also notes on our current thinking in the iverilog.wikia.com wiki in the developer pages. Anyhow, here is the new snapshot and release notes: <ftp://ftp.icarus.com/pub/eda/verilog/snapshots/verilog-20080830.tar.gz> <ftp://ftp.icarus.com/pub/eda/verilog/snapshots/verilog-20080830.txt> And for all of those who braved tracking the git repository and kept us occupied with feedback and bug reports, "Thank you!" Now back to work. - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at icarus.com But I have promises to keep, http://www.icarus.com and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFIuxnArPt1Sc2b3ikRAj4fAJ9mDnMN3As4DgIAzJd7OPvlRT16bQCg7pUm FVifGWcgArh/KAnlNETUKlY= =p5Mg -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I plan to reboot the icarus.com server to install some system updates. This is a minor upgrade and the outage should be brief, on the order of minutes. If things go badly, it could be as long as an hour. So if you have problems accessing icarus.com around 8:00pm PDT, give it a few minutes (or an hour) and try again. - -- Steve Williams "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. steve at icarus.com But I have promises to keep, http://www.icarus.com and lines to code before I sleep, http://www.picturel.com And lines to code before I sleep." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFIohParPt1Sc2b3ikRAgEcAJ9jHtUAsbW0woKdKUdgockIEhFcogCeL5XY NyvTBJBlN70D3/WTOxw7250= =tTqX -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
