The officers have decided that we will postpone the lab session this week to Thursday. Having two meetings a week was very taxing on us, and we believe it's a little much for the members too. We decided to alternate lab sessions and normal gamedev meetings every week. We will have lab this week, a normal meeting next week, lab after that, etc. Normal meetings will still be in Carver 150 at 8:00 p.m. Remember: Lab session this Thursday, Atanasoff 116 (or somewhere thereabouts), 7:00 p.m. We aren't meeting tonight. Also, we will have a booth at ClubFest on Wednesday, so feel free to come visit us in the Cardinal Room in the Memorial Union! |

It means Thursday... sorry about that. The mailing list server was slow, and the message didn't get out until after the meeting was over. Sorry again. We're going to try to meet on Tuesday in Atanasoff again. The ISU Game Developers Club is having its first meeting this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in Carver 150. It will be an introductory meeting -- we will explain what the club is about, what we want to accomplish in the next year, and introduce those of us that love to create games. Everybody is welcome! Game designers, programmers, artists, sound and music folks... Hope to see you there. Ben told me to let everybody know what the plan is this semester for the gamedev club. We plan to have our first meeting next Thursday (that is September 5th). The actual meeting itself has yet to be fleshed out. We plan to change the focus of the club from a passive, classroom-like setting (i.e., what we did last year) to something a lot more active. We want to form an active group to finish off Midworld (or another game, if that is what people want to do). The meetings would become more like real game design and development sessions. With Levi's new laptop, we could even playtest the game. That is my intent, at least. If plans change, you will surely hear about them. If have any ideas you want to throw out or have any questions, send a message to the isugamedev-devel list. We will start putting up flyers next week and I will send another message to this list with more information when the time comes. Thanks, Chad |

At the Game Developers Club meeting this Thursday, Adrian Sannier will be speaking about his experiences in the gaming industry. He'll start off with a short talk about what he's done out there in RealLife. Afterwards, we'll have a Q&A / round table type discussion. Adrian is a wonderful speaker, so make sure you show up! As a reminder, we're having officer elections for next semester at the meeting as well. We're holding elections for the following positions: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. If you're interesting in having a leadership position next semester, show up and nominate yourself! If you have any questions, send an e-mail to ga...@ia.... And visit our web site! http://isugamedev.sf.net/ Remember: Durham 171 7:00 p.m. Thursday, 26th (Gloria, could you forward this on to the ugrads? Thanks.) |

He'll cover some basic graph algorithms, Dijkstra's algorithm, and the A-star algorithm. He will also touch on genetic algorithms. hi all- i hope your thanksgiving break is going well and that you are looking forward to getting yourself stuffed. ^_^ several meetings ago we covered (quickly) what CVS is and how to get it working on windows using CygWin. i mentioned there was another way to go about it, but it required some "voodoo" to get it working. well, i put together a quick HOWTO for getting WinCVS and OpenSSH installed and working together so that you can access CVS in windows through a nice GUI. if you're interested, check out http://isugamedev.sf.net/wincvs_ssh_howto.html cheers, ----- Ben Scott President ISU Game Developers Club Treasurer ISU Ballroom Dance Company bs...@ia... |

This Thursday we're *back in Durham 171*. Hopefully it'll stay that way. :) This week we'll be choosing the games we want to work on and getting a rough idea of how the development teams will be laid out. If you can't make it to the meeting, e-mail us (ga...@ia...) the top two games that you'd like to work on. You can view the designs we have so far at http://isugamedev.sourceforge.net/design/index.html. If your design isn't there, E-MAIL US. If you're not sure what you want to work on yet, that's okay. No pressure, just send it in sometime next week. If you want to propose a new design this week, you *must* e-mail us the design beforehand. This way we can make sure we have time for you. Thursday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m., we'll be meeting in Gilman 1652 (remember: it's a different room from the last two times! We'll be back in Durham 171 soon enough) and hopefully finishing up our game design presentations. If we have enough time, we'll vote on the designs we liked best. Sample design documents and the ones we've received via e-mail are available at http://isugamedev.sourceforge.net/design/. Want us to list yours? Send it to one of us and we'll make sure it gets up there. See you there! -- Chad Austin http://aegisknight.org/ |

hi all- there were some great game ideas presented tonight. i must say i'm excited for what we have in store for us for the rest of the year. we stil have about 4 more game designs to hit next week. after that we'll have everyone vote on their favorite game designs and we'll go from there. i would like to ask all of you to email me (ga...@ia...) your design documents so we can post them on the web for everybody to read. in the future if anybody randomly comes up with a cool game design, we can throw it on the web so that we have a large database of cool ideas we can work with and to give us creative inspiration. by the way, for those of you that have not signed up for an account with sourceforge, you'll be hurting for one pretty soon. go to www.sourceforge.net (or www.sf.net) and sign up for an account (free!). then email ga...@ia... with your new username and we'll add you in as developers to our sourceforge project. this will give you the ability to work on code once we pick our game projects. also, i highly recommend using the isu...@li... mailing list to discuss the game designs that were presented tonight as well as the ones that will be posted to the web shortly. i think the discussion surrounding the designs posted tonight were excellent and would love to see them continue online. see you next week! ----- Ben Scott President ISU Game Developers Club Treasurer ISU Ballroom Dance Company bs...@ia... |

Another gamedev club meeting is coming up! We'll be proposing our game ideas, so make sure you remember to bring at least one paper copy of your design! You may also want to e-mail one to us (isu...@li...) so we can place it on the web page, and maybe check it into CVS. The meeting will proceed as follows: First, everyone (or as much as time allows... we may spill over into next week) will present their ideas. You get five minutes to present the game, and five minutes to answer questions from the rest of the club. If two people turn out to have relatively similar ideas, they may want to consolidate them into one design, so that they're not competing against each other. If you need a little help to get started, we have some sample design docs at http://isugamedev.sourceforge.net/design/index.html. You can also view a live copy of the design doc I'm working on at http://aegisknight.org/battlements Remember, it's in GILMAN, not Durham, this time. 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11th Gilman 1810 -- Chad Austin http://aegisknight.org/ |

The ISU Game Developers Club will be having a meeting this Thursday, October 4th, at 7:00 p.m. in Durham 171. We'll be showing off the tank games we've been working on, and Ben will give the members an introduction to linear algebra (necessary for any advanced 3D graphics!). We'll also make sure that people are getting their game design documents close to being ready for the big vote coming up on October 13th. ^_^ (If you weren't at the recent meetings, we're going to vote next week on which game we'd all like to work on as a club for the rest of the year.) Hope to see you there! Remember: If you have a new version of your tank game, bring it so you can show it off! Feel free to e-mail Win32 binaries to one of the officers, and we'll take care of bringing your game to the club, so you don't have to worry about floppies going bad. -- Chad Austin http://aegisknight.org/ |
