Just a reminder to everyone, the ISU Game Developers' Club is meeting again tonight at 8 to 9:30 pm at Howe Hall room 1220. This week we will be discussing possible club projects and general plans for the semester. Anyone is welcome to attend and pitch their thoughts and ideas. This week we will also show off some demos other students have made for class or in their spare time. I am looking for one student who is expert at video game play to help with a video game effects laboratory. The student would be able to get course credit (Psychology 491) for playing games, helping to choose and set up games, and possibly helping to conduct studies using the games. Students would be expected to work 3 hours for each credit, although most of the "work" playing the games needs to be done in the next 2 or 3 weeks, so all the hours could be front-loaded. Hey everybody, I was wondering if anyone was interested in attending the 2003 Austin Game Conference in Austin, TX (Duh!) Early registration price is $85, but only $55 for students. It takes place September 11-12 at the Austin Convention Center (a Thursday and Friday). For more info you can check out the details in the article at www.gamedev.net or on the conference's website at http://www.gameconference.com/ Thanks for your time, Matt Billock _____________________ Matt Billock, Senior in Computer Science (515) 292-6172 AIM: temyrr President, ISU Hockey Pep Band Technology Committee Chair, Tau Beta Sigma "Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry to bother everyone with this, Lyra Studios is looking for level designers. If you've got nothing better to do, and a connection to the internet, this could be the job for you! It's an unpaid internship, with the potential for royalties after release (I can't say too much because of an NDA I signed). Sorry to bug everyone about this, but wwww.gamedev.net is running an interesting series of articles on building a 3-D engine from the ground up. It's a seven-part series, with the first and second parts already released. Also, I've started a new project known as RPG studio. It's basically a tile-based RPG creator. If anyone's interested in helping out, the project is still in pre-planning, but I'd welcome input. Thanks for your time! Well I posted some info about a php/mysql web page game that's nearly perfected. If you want you can check her out at www.brokenmetal.net. I was wanting to make a 3d version of it this summer and the rest of my life :) and was wondering if anybody wants to help me. Broken Metal is basicly a space travel simulation. If you want to know more about it check out the clubs web site and I have a bunch of stuff on it in the help files of BM. Rebirth is another game I've been working on longer then BM, but I haven't spent as time in it and hope to work on it a little this summer. Rebirth is a lpc based mud that trys to simulate a life as someone that lives back in the midevil century, we don't want to focus as much on combat as rping and I'm trying to build it as such. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail |

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has anything planned this week. Thus, there is no meeting planned for today, Thursday. On the other hand, if anyone wants to talk about anything in particular, I'd be glad to get together and discuss... It turns out the computer lab in Music 101 has a bunch of music composition software. I'm looking into setting up an informal lab session where we could have some of the club's music geniuses (like Matt!) show us the ropes and give an overview of music composition for games. That would be super cool... More news when it's available. Chad |

We're going to get together this Thursday (Howe 1252, 8:00 p.m.) and finish up the plans for next semester's club. I don't have time to prepare anything else this week, but if you have demos or anything, bring 'em in. I'll see if I can get Levi to bring in his laptop. We could have Ben demo his funky cool Tetris and Josh his Loderunner. ;) Remember: If you're interested in helping out with the club next semester or you have some awesome new plans you'd like to implement, please show up! Last week only a few people came. |

Tonight we need to get together and discuss the future of club. After this semester, I'm stepping down as president, so we'll need a new crop of officers. The current ones are getting all crusty and old. ;) I know several of you are thinking "Well, I don't know anything about games and I've never helped run a club before." When Levi, Ben, and I started the club, we didn't know much either! But the last two years have taught us several important skills, such as how to give less than completely sucky public presentations, how to network with other organizations and people, and how to develop software cooperatively. All of these are very important in life beyond college. (And "President of the Game Developers Club" looks very good on a resume. ;) I hope to see you all there. We'll also take a look at when we can have the club paintball event later this spring. See you there!
