I am using an Arris Surfboard SB6141 modem. It is not hot to the touch. It is interesting that you mention the UPS. Until a couple of months ago, the IPCop machine was connected to a UPS (the Arris modem has never been connected to a UPS). The battery in the UPS was failing and I have since removed it, so the IPCop machine is plugged into a simple power strip. I think moving the UPS predates the disconnection issue I have been experiencing by at least a month, but perhaps it is not just a coincidence. As far as consistent power, while the UPS was hooked up, it would switch over to battery periodically (even though I did not lose electricity completely), but I think this was closer to 1-2 times per week and not multiple times a day. Did you have a similar issue? Do you think it is possible that inconsistent power could be causing this given that the modem has never been connected to a UPS (they are on different circuits). I will try to do some rearranging of how the IPCop machine and my personal computer are connected to the electrical and see if I learn anything.
