So you want network connectivity? Your question didn't specify this, but that seems to be the purpose of the device you reference. I've had to do USB-over-IP (under Windows) before, so this piqued my interest. The only solution I found with Linux support doesn't appear to be inexpensive, and is a software-only product: <http://www.incentivespro.com> If (as suggested by your text, rather than by the Digi product), you could use a couple StarTech PEXUSB7LP boards, which are linux-supported.
