My guess it that the following line of your ipconfig /all might be a
clue:
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : mydomain.org
It might be that when you type "ping ipcop" it is actually trying
ipcop.mydomain.org which doesn't exist as far as IPCop knows.

NO CHANGE... still can not ping ipcop
But, I did notice that ping -a does return the host name!
C:\TEMP>ping -a 192.168.1.1
