Hi Slava,

Thanks for all the good work you've done with jEdit. It's a wonderful  
piece of software!

I'm working on a Java IDE called IndigoSim for Repast, an agent based  
modeling toolkit.  Currently I'm using some really old code for  
syntax hilighting that doesn't work in Java 1.5. I'd really like to  
incorporate code from jEdit into our project. The problem is that our  
project is released under the BSD-license. The professor I'm working  
with, Marshall Van Alstyne, is developing a new license called Copy- 
Flex that is sort of in-between the GPL and BSD. Interestingly, both  
Richard Stallman and Eric Raymond have reacted positively to this new  
license. When the details of that license are settled, we'll be  
licensing IndigoSim under it. However, until that time we're sticking  
with BSD.

Is it possible you could license jEdit to us under the LGPL? We're  
already using a bunch of LGPL, apache, and BSD licensed projects. I  
know in certain cases developers have made an exception for a project  
that they support. For example, JEP, a library for math processing is  
normally available under the GPL. However, the developers of JEP  
licensed the package to Repast under the LGPL so it could be used in  
their BSD-licensed project.

P.S. I'm guessing from your first name that you have a Russian  
background, yes? I just ask because I have a Russian background too.  
My parents were born in Belarus, but  I was born in New Jersey.  
Thankfully they spoke Russian to me when I was growing up so I speak  
it fluently now.
