We here are discussing how best to support complex script rendering on handheld devices (based on StrongARM). Here are current options that I can see: - GPE - works with Gtk 1.2 (on top of TinyX) - Opie / QPE - based on Embedded Qt (on top of TinyX) - DirectFB + Gtk2 Now all of these options have problems as I can see. Gtk 1.2 and QT dont have full complex script rendering support. Direct FB + Gtk2 doesnt have a full desktop / application environment built up yet. Plus you lose all the benefits of X (if there are any... ;) So there is some work ahead with any of these solutions. Here are the options we have to move forward that I can see: - port Gtk2 to TinyX - port Qt2 to TinyX - start building up a desktop env for DirectFB + Gtk2 - write our apps from scratch (boo!) Any of you guys have any inputs on this? Any one know how the Simputer guys handle complex script rendering? -- Tapan |
