Hi. I have tried several times to download the Mac OS X version
of the new 3.0.2 release of Privoxy, but always without success. I
am clicking the privoxyosx_setup_3.0.2.zip link on the Files page
<http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=11118>,
but the result is that Internet Explorer (v5.2 for Mac OS X)
displays an empty window with "privoxyosx_setup_3.0.2.zip 1x1
pixels" in the title bar. My computer is a 17-inch flat-panel iMac,
with an 800MHz PowerPC G4 processor; the operating system is
OS X 10.2.3. In addition to Privoxy 3.0.0, I am running Intego
VirusBarrier X and NetBarrier X (the latter is a firewall program).
Any ideas as to why I cannot initiate a download?

Scott,
..what you see is most probably the result of Privoxy blocking the URL
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ijbswa/privoxyosx_setup_3.0.2.zip?use_mirror=easynews
because the host name ends in "ads". This has been fixed in 3.0.2, so
I suggest that you bypass your old Privoxy to download the new one,
or directly download 3.0.2 from here:
http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sf/ijbswa/privoxyosx_setup_3.0.2.zip

Sorry, wrong URL! Correct download location:

Thanks, Andreas. It was just after midnight when I received
your replies, so I tried using the alternate URL you provided. I
was able to download the 3.0.2 release without any further
difficulty, although I have not yet installed it. I have two follow-
up questions for you, however: (1) How does one "bypass"
Privoxy, as in the other alternative you suggested? I tried
disabling Privoxy 3.0.0 by using the Toggle Privoxy
bookmarklet, but my attempted download failed again. (2) Do
I need to take any special action (deleting files, uninstalling,
etc.) in order to upgrade from Privoxy 3.0.0 to 3.0.2?

Scott -
Toggling the bookmarklet off should might have failed if
you are using the OSX 3.0.0-1 (i.e. non-threaded) release.
If not, then cached pages is the next most likely culprit.
Flushing the cache would probably have fixed it.
Barring that, the next thing to disable Privoxy is to take
it out of your browser (or Network) configuration.
As to upgrading... you should be able to lay 3.0.2 right on
top of 3.0.0. It will leave your config and user.action
files untouched.

Thanks, David and Andreas! The upgrade installation was accomplished
without a hitch. Thanks also to all those involved in making Privoxy
available and continuing to improve it.
I guess that you can now change the status of this item to Closed. (I
would have tried doing so myself, but I wasn't sure whether that would
be consistent with your protocol.)

There's alarmingly little protocol where these records are
concerned. :-)
