Support Requests item #1620863, was opened at 2006-12-22 16:27 Message generated for change (Settings changed) made by fabiankeil You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=1620863&group_id=11118 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: blocking Group: None >Status: Closed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Summary: 404 errors (with Tor and "firewall") Initial Comment: v3.0.6 for Win SP2 using opera 9.1 firewall - zonealarm in conjunction with TOR Problematic URLs: www.download.com (searching) en.wikipedia.org email: gai...@gm... I get a 404 error for some sites and don't totally understand why. I tried making a trust file (which worked) but then figured out that it excludes *everything* (except what is in the file) which is not what i wanted. I guess if there was a way (doable for newbies) to just have a list of domains that privoxy would skip that would be sufficent. Cheers -Gaiko ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Hal Burgiss (hal9) Date: 2006-12-24 20:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=322640 Originator: NO com.com is an ad generator and user tracking domain ONLY. In this case you are being redirected through them so they can see what you are up to, and Privoxy is (wrongly) blocking all of dw.com.com, chiefly because of the domain's overall bad manners. This is a configuration bug on our part, and is fixed in current cvs if you are comfortable tinkering with text files: http://ijbswa.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/ijbswa/current/default.action.master Download and rename that to default.action in wherever your installation directory/config files are. Or you can put the following in your user.action (for local preferences): {+fast-redirects{check-decoded-url} -block} # redirector dw.com.com/redir {+block} # web-bug type stuff dw.com.com/clear/ I would suggest taking a look at the User Manual which has explanations of all the key files, and how to handle configuration related anomalies like this kind of thing. If not in your installation, its on privoxy.org. This won't be the first time you hit something that breaks due to a simple configuration issue. Let us know if you try this and it helps. The dw.com.com issue just surfaced a few days ago. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2006-12-24 19:49 Message: Logged In: NO > fabiankeil > > - Which configuration changes you made > to connect Privoxy with Tor. Vidalia >- The exact problem. Accessing some sites, seems to be esepcially problematic with wikis (and searching from the download.com webpage) >You mention that you tried the trust file but I >don't see why you mentioned that at all, or if >you're still using it. I tried it because i misunderstood its function. I thought that it was a "bypass file" of sorts that would tell privoxy to not bother filtering (or whatever the word is) specific domains. and no, i am not using a trust file anymore. >You somehow want Privoxy to "skip" some domains, >but I have no idea what that means. simple. act like there is no proxy etc for certain domains; at the moment all the info goes through the proxy but if it "skipped" certain domains the proxy would not be used on them. >I also don't know the text of Privoxy's >error page or if the problem goes away >if you disable Tor and/or Zonealarm (which generally >seems to cause more problems than it solves). tried enabling/disabling tor/zonealarm. no change when messing with zone alarm, and when i disable privoxy/tor it works just fine. The error text i get is as follows (copy/paste): Your request for http://dw.com.com/redir?usraction=37&oId=2001-20_4-0&siteId=4&destUrl=http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html%3Ftg%3Ddl-20%26qt%3Dqos%26tag%3Dsrch was blocked. and when i click on "see why" it says: This is Privoxy 3.0.6 on 80.80.15.166 (127.0.0.1), port 8118, enabled Matches for http://dw.com.com/redir?usraction=37&oId=2001-20_4-0&siteId=4&destUrl=http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html%3Ftg%3Ddl-20%26qt%3Dqos%26tag%3Dsrch: In file: default.action View Edit {-add-header -block -content-type-overwrite -crunch-client-header -crunch-if-none-match -crunch-incoming-cookies -crunch-outgoing-cookies -crunch-server-header -deanimate-gifs -downgrade-http-version -fast-redirects -filter {js-annoyances} -filter {js-events} -filter {html-annoyances} -filter {content-cookies} -filter {refresh-tags} -filter {unsolicited-popups} -filter {all-popups} -filter {img-reorder} -filter {banners-by-size} -filter {banners-by-link} -filter {webbugs} -filter {tiny-textforms} -filter {jumping-windows} -filter {frameset-borders} -filter {demoronizer} -filter {shockwave-flash} -filter {quicktime-kioskmode} -filter {fun} -filter {crude-parental} -filter {ie-exploits} -filter {site-specifics} -filter {google} -filter {yahoo} -filter {msn} -filter {blogspot} -filter {xml-to-html} -filter {html-to-xml} -filter {no-ping} -filter {hide-tor-exit-notation} -filter-client-headers -filter-server-headers -force-text-mode -handle-as-empty-document -handle-as-image -hide-accept-language -hide-content-disposition +hide-forwarded-for-headers +hide-from-header {block} -hide-if-modified-since -hide-referrer -hide-user-agent -inspect-jpegs -kill-popups -limit-connect -overwrite-last-modified -prevent-compression -redirect -send-vanilla-wafer -send-wafer -session-cookies-only +set-image-blocker {pattern} -treat-forbidden-connects-like-blocks } / {-handle-as-image } /.*\.(js|php|css|.?html?) {+block } dw.com.com In file: user.action View Edit (no matches in this file) Final results: -add-header +block -content-type-overwrite -crunch-client-header -crunch-if-none-match -crunch-incoming-cookies -crunch-outgoing-cookies -crunch-server-header -deanimate-gifs -downgrade-http-version -fast-redirects -filter -filter-client-headers -filter-server-headers -force-text-mode -handle-as-empty-document -handle-as-image -hide-accept-language -hide-content-disposition +hide-forwarded-for-headers +hide-from-header {block} -hide-if-modified-since -hide-referrer -hide-user-agent -inspect-jpegs -kill-popups -limit-connect -overwrite-last-modified -prevent-compression -redirect -send-vanilla-wafer -send-wafer -session-cookies-only +set-image-blocker {pattern} -treat-forbidden-connects-like-blocks Look up the actions for a new URL: More Privoxy: Privoxy main page View & change the current configuration View the source code version numbers View the request headers. There is no known connection between the browser choice and Privoxy's 404 error message. The missing information is: - Which configuration changes you made to connect Privoxy with Tor. - If you are using the official Privoxy build or if you got it through a third party package like Vidalia or Tor. - The exact problem. You mention that you tried the trust file but I don't see why you mentioned that at all, or if you're still using it. You somehow want Privoxy to "skip" some domains, but I have no idea what that means. I also don't know the text of Privoxy's error page or if the problem goes away if you disable Tor and/or Zonealarm (which generally seems to cause more problems than it solves). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2006-12-23 23:16 Message: Logged In: NO Do you want to bypass privoxy for some sites? If so, you can tell Opera to do this from "Tools...Preferences...Advanced...Proxy Servers" and enter the sites for which you want to bypass privoxy in the "Do not use proxy for the addresses below" field. Don't forget to tick the box to active the list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: gaiko (gaiko) Date: 2006-12-23 21:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1675664 Originator: NO Hi, I saw the follow up but it doesn't quite answer my question. The followup mentioned firefox and IE and that one will only get 404s. I mentioned i am using Opera 9.1, and i don't always get 404s, only on some pages (which i listed). The "canned response" from fabiankeil seemed to insinuate that i needed to give more information, i am not sure what else you need but just mention it and i'll give it! Cheers -Gaiko ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Date: 2006-12-23 18:25 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=875547 Originator: NO [This is a canned message:] Your support request has been received by the Privoxy team, but in order to look into the problem we need more information than you provided. Please check the following list and add any missing information that is applicable to your problem in a new comment to this item: * the exact Privoxy version (if you got the source from CVS, please also give the date;) * if you aren't using an official build that was released by the Privoxy Team, you should mention that as well. * whether or not you are using Privoxy's default configuration (for example if you changed the configuration to chain Privoxy with Tor) * the operating system and version that you run Privoxy on * the name, version and platform of the browser you were using when the problem occurred * The URL of the page on which you encountered the problem * the exact steps that are necessary to reproduce the problem. (If it's not reliably reproducible: any other information that might be helpful to identify the source of the problem, like log or config file excerpts) * IF EVER POSSIBLE, USE YOUR SF LOGIN OR SUPPLY AN EMAIL ADDRESS, SO THAT WE CAN REACH YOU. (Spam-safe like "user AT domain" if you like) Thanks in advance! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2006-12-23 18:08 Message: Logged In: NO 3.06 does not work with Firefox 2.0 or Internet 7.0. Privoxy 3.03 works with both. All you get is 404s with either browser. I have installed/uninstalled 3.03 and 3.06 many times. Sames result 3.03 works, 3.06 doesn't work with TOR. All you get is 404 messages. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=1620863&group_id=11118 |
