Category: blocking Group: None >Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Robo (befuddled99) Assigned to: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Summary: Can't reach any site with Privoxy enabled Initial Comment: I use an ibook with OS 10.4.11 (Mac). My browser is Firefox 3.5.3, with "NoScript" add-on. I just installed the Tor/Privoxy package, but when I activatge the "TorButton," I cannot reach any site. I get the following message, always: "503. The is Privoxy 3.0.6 local host...port 8118, enabled. Your request for ....cannot be fulfilled, because connection to ....could not be established." Questions: 1. What can I do? 2. If nothing, how can I disable Privoxy only? 3. If I disable Privoxy, can I still use Tor? If so, is it effective? Thank you! befuddled 99 dan...@ya... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Robo (befuddled99) Date: 2009-10-24 20:15 Message: Fabienkeil, Thank you. 1. I downloaded the latest "package" that would be appropriate for my ppc OS 10.4.11 could find on the net: 2.1.19-0.1.15-ppc. 2. How would I deinstall Privoxy? 3. What settings on Firefox should I change? 4. My goal is to get some privacy in my web searches. Would Tor without Privoxy achieve this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Fabian Keil (fabiankeil) Date: 2009-10-24 19:22 Message: 1. Privoxy 3.0.6 has been out of date for quite some time now and there's a fair chance that the Tor version that came with the bundle you are using is so old that it no longer works due to changes in the Tor protocol. Installing a more recent Tor version would fix this. 2. Deinstall Privoxy and change the browser's proxy settings. 3. Yes, assuming Tor itself is working. Whether or not Tor (with or without Privoxy) is effective depends on what you are trying to achieve. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=211118&aid=2885356&group_id=11118 |
