Just as a followup to my prior post on this...it almost works. Problem
is that when you restart icewm via the menu it re-loads the above files
and you get multiple instances of the background stuff in you 'init'
file.

So, for now I'm just leaving things alone; using the .xsession stuff and
xdm.
