Can't Open display.

hi,
I am using IceWM 1.0.9 , with Xfree version 4.0.2. I compiled and =
installed Xfree and IceWM on my computer, but when i try to invoke the =
IceWM i am getting the following error :

IceWM: Can't open display: 127.0.0.1:1. X must be running and $DISPLAY =
set.

i have set the DISPLAY variable to 127.0.0.1:1 and X windows is running =
(Xfbdev --> since i am using TinyX).

Can any one suggest me a solution for this problem?
