Hi Marc, Sure I understand : I didn't want the 0.844 specifically, I was just wondering why the sources where at 0.843 while the Linux version was at 0.844 ;) I am currently running a snapshot of OpenBSD 4.3, but when the final OpenBSD 4.3 will be available I will build a XPI of your extension and send it to you. Hi Gabriel, The main reason is that my life is currently a never ending story of running in all directions It is fun, but in short, I had no enough time to spend on the extension in the last weeks :-) Anyway, when I have read your post in the forum, I knew already that there is a problem with the version 0.844. There was a XPCOM change introduced in Firefox 3 beta 4. Due to it, the part of the extension in C would need to be recompiled on all platforms to work with the final Firefox 3. That is why I spent my time doing the 0.845 version. I can put the version 0.844 but if you have understood, it will not work with the final Firefox 3. If you have a version 0.845, do not hesitate to mail me directly and I will put it on the site. Thanks, Marc Gabriel Linder wrote: > Hi, > > On the download page[1], the latest and greatest is 0.844 for Linux. Hi, On the download page[1], the latest and greatest is 0.844 for Linux. I have to compile the extension myself for OpenBSD, but the source package is only at 0.843, why ? By the way is there any OpenBSD user right here interested by running this extension with native OpenBSD Firefox ? I can provide a method to build the extension (need cleanup, but it works) or binary xpi at your convenience. [1] http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/download.html |

Hello, I have compiled a xpi of the latest version 0.8.4.4 for Linux x86_64. I have uploaded it to: http://www.file-upload.net/download-721821/tidy_firefox_linux64_0844.xpi.html Compiled on Ubuntu 7.10 with gcc 4.1.2 and glibc 2.6.1 Regards, Benjamin Drung |

Hi Marc, I had the 64 bit version installed before, I just switched from 64bit FF to 32bit. On first start of 32bit FF, I was lead to the error page for the first time. I then uninstalled 64bit HTML validator, restarted FF and installed the 32bit HTML validator from the download page. The following errors are shown in the OP. So I now use the localized FF provided by http://firefox-browser.de. It works, same profile. No hassle with HTML validator. Thanks for your help! Hi Werner, If I understand, you use the 32 bits of Firefox on a Linux 64 bits ? I would think to try 2 things: - be sure to use the Firefox distributed by mozilla.org and not the one of your OS - maybe try the 32 bits version of the extension and the 64 bit one to see if it change something: See here: http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/download.html Good luck ! Hi Marc, again me with the same problem :-( You helped me before (Feb 2007, for example) when you put my nose on the doc, I hope you succeed this time, too ;-) Well, I use openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 and - because I want to use Java - the 32bit Version of Firefox 2.0.0.11. On starting FF, I am thrown to a page that tells me "FATAL ERROR : The dynamic C library contained in the extension file could not be found." This is independent of my selection of the validation method. So I follow the link to http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/faq.html#LINUX and find the usual solution, ldd. We are not amused ;-) What will be the reason for the eror, when ldconfig tells me all libraries are present? At the bottom of the Errors/FAQ page, you give instructions how to create a debug file, but the directory contains files from last August only, though I'm reproducing the bug on every restart of FF. I will disable HTML validator now to get FF working :-( Regards, Werner |

Hello Marc, As you probably know, W3C/QA has released new version of Markup Validator. [ANN] Markup Validator 0.8.0 released from olivier Thereaux on 2007-07-25 (www...@w3... from July 2007) http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-validator/2007Jul/0138.html Does this release impact to the current version of your extension? I mean, does the extension show the same parsing result with Markup Validator 0.8.0 at this moment? Best, Kazuhito -- Kazuhito Kidachi mailto:kaz...@gm... |

I still think this bug is more related to gtk+firefox than to htmlvalidator, but in the meantime it would be nice a workaround, as explained http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=211&can=2&q=gnome (firebug bug, but applies to htmlvalidator as well... actually I've discovered it *in* htmlvalidator) sorry for "bugging" :) It's not a serious issue anyway, just a bit annoying -- NoWhereMan (e.v.) -- http://www.nowhereland.it -- http://flatpress.nowhereland.it |

Hi, I installed the extension, the latest version (0,839) on Ubuntu Feisty, 32 bit. But every time I install/reopen the browser, it asks me which validator to choose. I installed the package tidy, and libstdc++5 (was already installed), but none solve the issue. Should Kristof Mattei <http://www.kristofmattei.be/> kr...@kr... |

Thanks, that explains why others seemed to be getting this to work. The computer I mostly use the extension on does not have a local server installed. I have since found that using the 'Page Source' option will do the validation without changing the general enable/disable; however 0.8.3.5 seems to be working just fine, so I'll probably just stick with that for now. Thanks again for a valuable extension and your quick response. If you can add this ability into 0.840 that would be wonderful. > Hello, > > I have added this in the todos. Hello, I have added this in the todos. It is a corner case I never thought about and that is not possible unhappily. You can have a local server to wa the issue and enable the validation of http://localhost/ in place.. Anyway, I add this in the todos of 0.840. Marc te...@al... wrote: > I really like the extension. I really like the extension. I am using version 0.8.3.5 and would like to update to the current version since I believe the one I have is a beta. But I like to use the following list of domains to validate: mysite1.org,mysite2.com, localhost. This works fine in 0.8.3.5 but although I can add the others just fine to the Allow list in the new version, I cannot get localhost (pages still on my computer and not yet uploaded) to be added to the Allow list. I saw a post saying to right-click the icon to allow it, but the only option for local pages seems to be a general Enable for everything. Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Win XP if it mattters. Thanks |

Hi Michael, I tried to use the new functionality with the new API of Firefox. I know it is different... Anyway, please do this: - First, right click on the extension and choose disable - Then go to your favorite domain - Right click on the icon and choose : Enable for yourdomain.com In the list you should have only : yourdomain.com - Allow. And that's it. Now, I never thought that people would the extension only for local files. I think it is not possible right now. Since file:// is not a possible option in the new firefox filter. Is it what you need ? Hi Marc, I've been an enthusiastic user of your Firefox HTML validator plugin, which makes it easy to maintain valid pages when developing web applications. In particular, I like to use it to validate only local pages, which avoids the overhead of running all pages through the validator, while keeping my own local pages clean and shiny. This behavior is available in the version I've mostly used (0.7.9.5), but I recently upgraded to the latest version (0.8.3.9) and I can't figure out how to restrict validation to localhost. As far as I can tell, it is now possible to allow or block sites only on a case-by-case basis. I've searched the web and the mailing list archive to no avail. Could you tell me how to restrict validation to particular domains in the latest version? Thanks in advance, Michael |
