[Hplip-help] no 7x5in paper support and ppd file problems

I have a PSC 2410 and always print photos on 7x5in paper (or always have
done from Windows). I'm now running SuSE 10.0 with the default hplip
installation off the SuSE DVD, but there is no 7x5in paper size option
for printing on.

I found the matching PSC 2400 Series ppd file on the internet. It's
probably an updated version, because having viewed the text inside, I
noted it has '7x5 photo' amongst other sizes listed, but there was no
advice on where or how to install it. So in YaST I went to the printer
configuration, clicked on the device and 'Edit', from where I could
select an alternative ppd file from a local source or download. I
updated it to the new one, and it showed as this in all the dialogs in
YaST (explicitly stating 'downloaded' in the string).

I clicked Finish and then tried restarting cups, then rebooted, but
nothing seems to make the 7x5 paper option appear anywhere; they're all
the same paper sizes as before. What can I do to make this work?
