Since updating my Macbook Pro M1 (2021) to Ventura, Meteorologist causes my machine to freeze when it has been running for a while. I attribute the problem to Meteorologist because the problem reliably does not occur when it is not running (and always eventually occurs when it is, though how long it takes varies). It took a long time to troubleshoot this, as you can imagine.

I tried deleting Meteorologist entirely and reinstalling, as well as usual steps like emptying caches and checking the disk. It does appear that Meteorologist is the culprit.

The symptoms are a sudden beachball in one app, which is quickly joined by most of my other open apps being labeled as stalled. The pointer continues to move around the screen, and any audio I am playing continued, but the machine is otherwise frozen, and has to be rebooted by holding down the power button.

Meteorologist 3.5.2
Macbook Pro 14-inch 2021
MacOS 13.1 (but the problem began the minute I updated to Ventura 13.0)

I have actually had the same problem on my other machine, a Mac Studio, but less frequently, it seems.

DavidP - I personally updated from Intel to an M2 about 2 weeks ago. I can't say that I've seen the same problem but I can tell you that the guts of Meteorologist are being re-written, not because of Apple Silicon, but the support of Apple weatherKit is requiring it, along with changes to Xcode 14.

First, I ask you to hold tight and wait for the new version.

Second, try a couple of things. Re-download the app. Go to ~/Library/Preferences and rename com.heat.Meterologist.plist, reboot and try again. That will start you over incase something simply got corrupt.

Third, can you pass along the file ~/Library/Logs/Meterologist.log. It may give some hints to what is going on. Warning - everytime you restart Meterologist, this file gets reset so wait until something bad happens before passing it along.

    Thanks.

    Ed
