There is a known problem with compiling 0.19-8 if you don't have the fftw 3.x libraries. I have a simple fix, which I will try to get posted tonight. jw Rooot wrote: > Am Donnerstag 04 September 2003 08:21 schrieb Howard Sanner: > >> I'm having troubles compiling gwc 0.19-8. gcc complains that a >>couple of identifiers are undeclared in fft_remove_noise() in >>file denoise.c. > > > I got exactly the same error on a gentoo-1.2 system, 0.19-7 compiles > fine. > > Roland |

I'm having troubles compiling gwc 0.19-8. gcc complains that a couple of identifiers are undeclared in fft_remove_noise() in file denoise.c. The attached file gives the compiler's output. Thanks. Howard Sanner fla...@mi... |

A million thanks to Frank Freudenberg for providing the code to interface with the FFTW 3.x libraries! A bugfix (where declicking to the end of the file would sometimes crash), hopefully -- your reports are very useful... I started working on the online documentation. It is not complete, but it's getting there. You will need to do a "make install" as super user to get the online help functional. I'm also working on separating out the OSS sound driver dependent code into a audio_oss.c module. The libsndfile stuff will live in the audio_sndfile.c module. These are not implemented yet, but live in the source tree. Eventually, there will be an audio_alsa.c, and for those folks in OS X land, some other folks are going to start working on the audio API for OS X. Enjoy -- and keep those bug reports rolling in! Cheers, Jeff Welty |

Thanks to several of you who have reported back with bugs! I'm squashing them one by one. There are several still unresolved, but this release takes care of the most dire of them (I hope). - This should now compile cleanly for everyone. - Fixed a bug in markers, where they were not working. There may still be a problem with markers when reading audiofiles opened by previous versions of GWC, I did not have a chance to follow up on that one. I'm off for a small vacation. If you find a bug, please send in a report! jw |

Thanks for the quick response. I left the end of the side unhighlighted and gwc 0.19-2 didn't crash. I should add that the WAV files have some silence at the end after the record side ends. I have never highlighted more than just a little of this silence (so as to be sure to include all of the signal from the disc). The samples I left unselected that caused the program not to crash are part of the 78 rpm disc. (If that isn't clear, I'll keep trying till it is.) Thanks again for getting right on this. I'm looking forward to trying gwc 0.19-6! Howard Sanner fla...@mi... |

Howard, Thanks for the bug report. I did nothing in 0.19-5 that would fix this problem. If you would, do a test for me -- highlight as you did before, but don't highlight all the way to the end of the wavfile, leave a hundred or so samples unselected. gwc-0.19-5 included the gtk.h file as part of the progress meter for the encoding. I'll check on that. jw Howard Sanner wrote: > OK, since I can't get gwc 0.19-5 to compile, I'll describe the > problems I'm having with 0.19-2. > > gwc crashes at the end of two different WAV files I have. Howard, I see. I added the {} in gwc.c and then got by with only a couple of minor errors. Then got the error in audio_util.c. I added the {} there too, and the next thing was a series of errors in encode.c, which I likewise fixed with the {}. Strangely it went on and completed the rest of the files. I didn't get the gtk.h not found error, it just finished! I ran ./gwc and it came up. I haven't used it yet because it's getting way late. I'll try it over the weekend. I have gtk 1.2 and 2.0 installed, if that makes a difference. Both include a gtk.h file. Good Luck, John Cirillo Howard Sanner wrote: > John Cirillo wrote: > >> I know you love getting these. I know you love getting these. I can't tell what is failing this time. gwc-0.19-2 still compiles fine, and also gwc-0.19-3 with the minor mod I reported a few months ago. But gwc-0.19-5 just pukes when it hits gwc.c. OK, since I can't get gwc 0.19-5 to compile, I'll describe the problems I'm having with 0.19-2. gwc crashes at the end of two different WAV files I have. I can highlight either the whole file or just the last few seconds, click on strong or weak declick, and, when it reaches the end of the file it crashes with the error message: "solve.c", line 87: singular matrix in function Usolve() Sorry, too many errors: 100 Exiting program Both WAV files are transfers of 78 rpm discs. One is a fairly noisy home acetate; the other is a near mint, extremely clean & quiet Columbia. Greetings, I decided to download gwc 0.19-5 to see if it fixed problems I was having with 0.19-2. I couldn't get it to compile. I'm running Mandrake 8.1 with gcc 2.96 20000731. I have successfully compiled and run gwc 0.19-2. gwc 0.19-5 will not compile. The compiler complains about undeclared variables. It seems not to like variables declared in blocks that do not have a { immediately before them. This occurs in gwc.c and audio_util.c. I fixed this, which cured that complaint. However, later the compiler complained that it could not locate gtk.h, a complaint it doesn't have with 0.19-2. What's changed to require this header? Thanks for any light you can shed. I think you two have said most of the relevant stuff, but I'll add a few comments: 1) The lame dependency appeared in 0.19-3, which I at least declared to be experimental. Charles Morgan was/is working on creating mp3's or ogg's directly from GWC, and that's what this is all about. Charles had the basic pipe working, but I wanted to see if we could get a progress meter for user feedback, and he was working on that, and trying to find a job too. I hope no news means he's busy with a new job! 2) Documentation. It doesn't completely suck, but it's close. There is a help file -- gwc_help.html that comes along in the main source directory. I do believe it's up to date as of 0.19-2. It pretty much covers the basics. I think what Tim started here could turn into a tutorial, which is sorely needed. The gwc_help.html could also use a nicer face on it. I offer no excuses here, only that this is my hobby... 3) Libsndfile and fftw libs have been changing while I have done basically nothing with GWC. And so fftw 3.x doesn't work at all with GWC (they completely changed the API, for the better, but I haven't caught up with them). I think GWC is compatible with the newest releases of libsndfile. 4) If you want to start playing an arbitrary portion of the wavfile, just highlight it, hit "play"... 5) Song Markers. This are really, really cool. With these, you can identify those sections of the audio you want to identify as individual tracks for cdrdao. You can then do a File->"Create cdrdao toc as". This means you can work the entire side of one LP, or cassette tape at once, then instead of literally splitting out the individual tracks manually as separate wavfiles, you just identify where those tracks are for cdrdao. Get at those from the "Markers" menu. 6) Selection Markers. These have changed since the documentation. I attached the new gwc_help.htlm file. I think that's all. For now. Maybe this winter is the winter to do some more serious work on the documentation. Not much GWC action during the summers :-) Cheers, Jeff Welty Tim Wunder wrote: > Hi Tom. > I'm currently using 0.19-0, and it compiled fine on my copy of RHL 8.0. > I have libsndfile-1.0.1-1 and lame-3.93.1-0.fdr.2.rh80. > > To extract tracks is easy. Hi Tom. I'm currently using 0.19-0, and it compiled fine on my copy of RHL 8.0. I have libsndfile-1.0.1-1 and lame-3.93.1-0.fdr.2.rh80. To extract tracks is easy. Just mark the beginning and ending tracks, highlight in between (it'll kinda jump to the markers making selection easy -- so you don't have to be real precise with the mouse, just get close to the marker), then Save Selection As whatever .wav filename you want. Here's how I do it: Open the WAV . Zoom to a section of WAV that's between tracks. Listen to the section to determine where the song should begin, then highlight that section so the beginning of the highlight is at the beginning of the song. Then click Markers-Toggle beginning marker (or press B) to mark a beginning of a song. Do the same to the end of the song. Zoom out so that the full song is in view Highlight between the markers to select the song. Click File-Save Selection As I just use the Beginning and Ending markers, as I haven't quite figured out how to use the Song Markers yet, myself. To play just a section of the WAV, soom in or hightight the part you want to play. GWC will play the highlighted section, if nothing is highlighted, then it will play what's on the view pane. And, as with all small Open Source projects, documentation is problematic. But there's a mailing list now, and Jeff Welty, the developer, is a pretty good guy when it comes to responding to questions and suggestions. In fact, I'm taking the liberty of CC'ing gwc...@li..., in case one of the other GWC users has a better answer for you... Regards, Tim On Sunday 17 August 2003 9:08 am, someone claiming to be Tom B. I'm happy to report that I succeded compiling gwc! I've beenrunning it for 10 minutes now and ready to fix some of my precious pieces from tape. Thanks for a great program. Thanks Jeff, thanks John. Following John's clue I searched my system for the development libraries, but they aren't there; they are not on the distro CD or ftp site either. I'm researching it; if I find useful info I'll post it here. Slackware 9.0 (current vrsn) is using Gnome 2.2, but is not the vanila gnome; itis a "tweaked Gnome for Slackare". More info can be found at sourceforge or their wave page www.dropline.net. -------Original Message------- From: Jeff Welty <we...@ya...> Sent: 07/28/03 06:26 PM To: John Cirillo <ci...@pu...>, cae03 <ca...@ea...> Subject: Re: [Gwc-general] Installation problem > > Thanks John! Thanks John! Other things which have changed -- there is a fftw version 3.x series, which *won't* work with gwc, they redefined the subroutine calls, so it will take some effort to get that reconfigured. You have to be sure to use the fftw 2.x series. Gnome 2 libs are out too, and I haven't investigated that either. I'm unfamiliar with slackware and which version of gnome they may have by default. I had the same problem. I am using Red Hat 7.3. The solution in my case was to install gnome-libs-devel which was an RPM package on one of the CDs. I don't know much about slackware's distro so don't know where you would find that set of files unless there was a similar package on the CD. I checked for the fft libraries but did not find the ".so" type so I recompiled fft with the --enable-shared. But still ./config reported errors. Hello, I'm trying to install gwc, but so far I haven had luck. I started with version 0.19-3, but it complained of not finding "fftw-create-plan in -lfftw...". I checked for the fft libraries but did not find the ".so" type so I recompiled fft with the --enable-shared. But still ./config reported errors. After reading the postings of Jeff Welty / Dave I followed the advice and dawnloaded 0.19-2, but I still get errors. It says that "gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib created by gnome-libs istall does not exist." Although I use KDE most of the time gnome is installed y runs fine; I checked the installed packages and the CD but can't find a reference to gnome-libs or development libs (if any). The system: AMD Athlon 2000; 525 RAM Slackware 9.0 Any comments will be appreciated. |
