I just tried to back up 15 GB of music files (a mix of .mp3, .wav, m4a files) from a 30 GB iPod using gtkpod 0.99.12 on a Fedora 10 Linux system. It was largely successful but I had three questions. FIRST, I get error messages of the form: Failed to write 'Semisonic-Closing Time' Template ('%o;%a - %t.mp3;%t.wav') does not match file type '/media/IPEYTON/iPod_Control/Music/F32/OITT.m4a' for about 10% of the files I tried to backup. Could someone please explain what this message means and how to fix this problem? SECOND, when I look at the directory of backed up iPod files, I see lots of cryptic names of the form GPND.m4a or ZVAX.mp3. If I want to restore these files at some future date, especially to a different iPod, how will the iPod know how to decipher the names and recover track information? As far as I can tell, gtkpod does not back up the iPod database so I am not sure how to get back to the names and playlists. THIRD, is there any way to backup files that are not music files such as digital pictures and video files? Thanks, Henry |
