#411 Can't save

I am using gscan2pdf on Fedora 37.
I can scan pages but I can't save them, neither using the menu nor the save button. In both cases a dialog shows up in which I can select a destination but upon saving, nothing happens.
I can print to file in which case the scan is saved.

Has this behaviour only just started, or have you only just started using gscan2pdf?

Please start gscan2pdf from the command line with:

gscan2pdf --log=log

try to save something, quit, and post the log file, which gscan2pdf should have compressed with .xz.

I have the same behviour and i ihink its the same as #401 . i swiched to graphicsmagic as suggested in # 401 and it did not help. (K)ubuntu 22.04 gscan2pdf 2.12.6

Thanks for the log file. I can't see anything untoward there, but on the other hand, it's missing the end. Can you give me another one, but this time, use compression=auto, and then first quit, and then give the log file, which gscan2pdf will probably have compressed with .xz?

The attached log is from the same Session, after i had to kill it. The new file size should be 130kbyte but in the file chooser dialog it shows 127kbyte as the previous version. Whats going on here?

You wrote in #401 that it does work with graphicsmagic and compat layer too, and i did just that and got an error message on startup that it wont work.

so i did another try, i switched to tesseract, the error is still there, but now it works! I scanned one page and it was processed fairly quickly. Save as pdf works too. But now it takes ages to recognize the scanner the scan button was greyed out, i had to switch it on manually.

It look to me as if the problem starts with the warning:

WARN - Odd number of elements in anonymous hash at /usr/share/perl5/Gscan2pdf/Document.pm line 649.

It seems that the problem then is the unpaper call. Does it solve the problem if you unselect the clean-up process in the scan post-processing steps?

ok, because the scanner isn't recognized properly, i switched the interface to libimage-sane-perl and it gets stuck again so i have to kill it.

Again, I don't think the problem is libimage-sane-perl, but instead the clean-up/unpaper step. Please switch back to libimage-sane-perl and test without unpaper/clean-up.

So i switched back to libimage-sane-perl and leave cleanup unchecked, scanned 2 Pages and this is what I've got.

so i switched back to scanimage, unchecked cleanup and it worked again.

Since there was a workaround (printing the scan to a file worked), I just waited to see if the problem would persist after applying regular updates. I can't remember having done something special but at this moment I can save the scans.
