Hello,
on my mother's laptop i install kubuntu 16.04 as i have on my laptop.
I installed also gscan2pdf app as i use it every day on my computer as it is a great app.
However, on my mother's laptop for an unknown reason, once scanner/printer detected, the scanning window is extended in height and scan+close buttons are "like" pushed downward and become unreachable/invisible.

i can access to each tab to setup features as i want, but i can not see scan and close buttons.
i tried to minimize/maximize or change window size without suscess.

if i launch the scan windows and just hit "enter", gscan2pdf scan the document and displays it as usual... however scan+close buttons are not visible... really like the window was too heigh for the laptop screen resolution...an no scrolling bar at all :(

you can see the issue on attached screenshots.

any idea what is the problem ?
thx

The options on the first "page options" tab are in an area which can be scrolled, and thus the window can be resized.

As soon as the scanner has been detected, the other tabs are filled. These do not have scrolling windows, and thus the whole dialog is resized so that the widgets in the largest tab fit.

The workaround is to hide widgets you do not need. This you can do in Edit/Preferences.

Another solution would be for me to use scrolling windows for all tabs, allowing the dialog to be resized.

i'm sorry to tell you that the page options tab, do not allow to be scrolled. I can only resize windows in width , but not in height :(

Weird behavior.... Could it be KDE 5.5.5 issue ? I can not believe that as all other apps are correctly working.

In Edition > Preferences, i use the interface "libsane-perl".
Other interfaces raise an error "scanner/device not found" while in libsane-perl, the scanner is perfectly found and scan document if you press enter key while "scan" button has the focus... but you never know when this button has the focus as you do not see the button. :(

Scanner is an Epson XP-332 (inkjet scanner/printer combi).

after closing gscan2pdf more time while app has another interface, finally the scrollbar appears in the page options tab :)

    so i'm confused now ;(

The problem is that your scanner has many options, and that gscan2pdf displays them all in the other tabs.

The scrollbar on the first tab is only visible if it can be used. i.e. if the options in the other tab make them larger than the first tab, then the scrollbar there will be hidden.

For the libsane-perl frontend, there is no workaround at the moment.

    I can do two things.

    • Put scroll bars in the other tabs as well, meaning that the dialog can be fully resized.
    • and/or also apply the option visibility preferences in Edit/Preferences to the scan options in the libsane-perl frontend

The first is much easier, so I'll start with that.

In the mean time, I would be interested in why the scanimage interface doesn't work properly. Can you start gscan2pdf with the --log=log option, switch to the scanimage frontend, open the scan dialog, quit, and post the log file?

I've added the scroll bars to the other tabs. You'll see this in the next release, probably in around a month.
