Hi:
I'm using the 2024b version of gretl for teaching. Students with Macs are reporting errors in changing the language from Spanish (default language in most cases) to English. People with Windows OS have no problems.

I attach a screenshot of the error message they are getting when trying to change the language in the menu Tools > Preferences > General.
Any idea how this could be fixed?

Thanks,
Pedro

Thanks for the report. I can confirm that this problem occurs with gretl 2024b, but it's fixed in the snapshots for macOS available at https://gretl.sourceforge.net/osx.html .

    Hi:
I have the same problem, I need to change language, but when I tried to downloads snapshots my macbook is not openning it. Can you help with it? Or should I download 2024b version of gretl and also snapshots?

    Thanks,
    Daiana

The snapshot replaces the released version; don't download both. Please note: our official releases are both code-signed and "notarized" but the snapshots are just code-signed. To install a snapshot you need to give permission via System Preferences/Privacy and Security, as described at https://gretl.sourceforge.net/mac_security.html

As mentioned, this should be fixed in the upcoming release (and current snapshots). We know by now that having an iphone synced or somehow connected to the Mac can have an influence on this behavior, so bug reports like these will probably re-appear. But for now I'm closing this.
