Outstanding! The show hidden files toggle works fine, and I had no idea how useful it would be until I actually used it. That is bizarre about the Name/New name column resizing. At least, if you manually resize, the subsequent autoresize failure only lasts for the remainder of that instance, and recovers at next launch. --- Zurd <zu...@ya...> wrote: > The show hidden files option has been implemented in > SVN. > > > Combattez les méchants pourriels... The tree pane width save works, and so does the column autowidth on Name/New name. Thanks! I recommend *not* disabling user resizing of the Name/New name column however, because sometimes filenames are ridiculously long, and scrolling a horizontal window has always been one of my least favorite things to do in a GUI. Surely automatic resizing vs manual resizing are not mutually exclusive? Please let us know when there is a release candidate with optimized code, so we can at least test it a little bit ;-) --- Zurd <zu...@ya...> wrote: > A setting to save the width of the HPaned of the > tree is a good idea and I've > already implemented it, it's in SVN. > > As for the other features, if I don't forget > anything, here's what I've added > in the to do list : > > Add a status bar at the bottom with the number of > files and directories. > Add a toggle option to not show hidden files. > Add a Remember last directory option. > Optimize the code, at over 6000 files GPRename > doesn't respond very well, this > is especially bad when the recursive option will be > implemented. > > For the width of the Name/New Name column, GPRename > will automatically resize them > and correctly adjust these columns to fit the list > of files or directories, that is, > if you do not resize it by yourself, then it won't > work. A setting to save the width of the HPaned of the tree is a good idea and I've already implemented it, it's in SVN. As for the other features, if I don't forget anything, here's what I've added in the to do list : Add a status bar at the bottom with the number of files and directories. Add a toggle option to not show hidden files. Add a Remember last directory option. Optimize the code, at over 6000 files GPRename doesn't respond very well, this is especially bad when the recursive option will be implemented. For the width of the Name/New Name column, GPRename will automatically resize them and correctly adjust these columns to fit the list of files or directories, that is, if you do not resize it by yourself, then it won't work. Try to browse through directories and you'll see you don't have to resize it by yourself, maybe we should lock these columns so that no user can resize it? Finally, as you said, GPRename doesn't have any right-click options, the toggle hidden files will be put in the Options menu, it's a little bit farther than a right-click, but it's much simpler to implement and you won't have to toggle this option on and off every day anyway :) Cheers. --- Lacrocivious Acrophosist <alt...@ya...> a écrit : > I agree with Marvin that starting in ~/.gprename is > useless, but I like the 'remember last directory' > option (and have recommended it before). I agree with Marvin that starting in ~/.gprename is useless, but I like the 'remember last directory' option (and have recommended it before). Gwenview, to name one example, has this option and it is very useful. Kaffeine seems also to follow this method, as do KGet, Firefox downloader, and the DownThemAll! Firefox extension, to name just a few. Of course one can set the menu to start the program in any directory, but I find that in the course of actual use, no single directory is what I want. Rather, I tend more often to wish the program started where I last used it, as I am more likely to use it in that place at next startup. While I'm at it, I wish pane sizing adjustments would retain settings during last use. At present they revert to some default I don't like. I'm referring to the left pane/right pane, and 'Name/New name' columns in particular. The hidden files/directories toggle is an excellent idea, particularly if available by, say, right-click context menu in the left pane where the tree is. I wish Konqueror had this left-pane option in file management mode (it does have it in the right pane). I realize right-click isn't apparently used in the current version. Likewise, I believe the number of files and directories display would be a useful addition. Just my views ;-) --- Zurd <zu...@ya...> wrote: > --- Marvin Stark <ma...@de...> a écrit : > > > Hi, > > > > On Saturday 01 September 2007 22:35, Zurd wrote: > > > Those are very good suggestions, I'll try to > implement them in SVN next > > > week. > > > > > > --- richard lucassen <spa...@lu...> a > écrit : > > > > Hello Zurd, > > > > > > > > Sorry to disturb you by mail, I just have > something for the wishlist: > > > > > > > > - start directory in ~/.gprename > > > > - option "remember last directory" > > > > - toggle on/off of hidden files and > directories in ~/.gprename > > > > I would keep $PWD as start directory... > ~/.gprename is useless.... > > Otherwise we should add an option where the user > can define his starting > > directory. > > I agree, a start directory isn't that useful, if > you're in command line, set > an alias to always start at a specific location and > if you're using an icon, > just modify it, so there's not even a need for an > option to select a starting > directory. > > And this keeps me thinking, does an option to > remember the last directory is > still useful? I agree, a start directory isn't that useful, if you're in command line, set an alias to always start at a specific location and if you're using an icon, just modify it, so there's not even a need for an option to select a starting directory. And this keeps me thinking, does an option to remember the last directory is still useful? Is there any other applications out there having a similar option? It's quite simple to implement though. However the toggle on/off for hidden files is a very good idea. I also thought about a Status bar at the bottom where it can says the number of files and directories, like '23 Files and 3 Directories'. > .""`. Sorry about that, I forgot to add one more requirements in the README. I added it in the new README in the latest revision in SVN and on the website, it's quite overkill to have 3 packages (gnu-gettext, perl-gettext and libintl-perl) just for the function gettext, but that's how it works in Linux: a lot of dependencies ;-) --- Lacrocivious Acrophosist <alt...@ya...> a écrit : > > --- alb...@gm... wrote: > > > > > you just need perl-gettext, try to download it from > > here: > > > http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/3431694/com/perl-gettext-1.05-9.fc6.i386.rpm.html > > > > Lacrocivious Acrophosist: > > > Although v.2.3 works fine here on a Fedora Core 6 > > > system, neither the v.2.4 release (from tarball) > > nor > > > build 158 (from SVN) are working. > > > ... > > > > Thank you, that was precisely correct. > > I already had gettext, so that threw me off. you just need perl-gettext, try to download it from here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/3431694/com/perl-gettext-1.05-9.fc6.i386.rpm.html Lacrocivious Acrophosist: > Although v.2.3 works fine here on a Fedora Core 6 > system, neither the v.2.4 release (from tarball) nor > build 158 (from SVN) are working. > ... |

Although v.2.3 works fine here on a Fedora Core 6 system, neither the v.2.4 release (from tarball) nor build 158 (from SVN) are working. I have done 'make uninstall' and removed the directory and reinstalled and done 'make install' and so forth several times, without success. I have triple checked the requirements (had to install libintl-perl, a new one) and they all appear to be fine. Thanks, you're just in time, I was about to release version 2.4 today! I added the translation in SVN and before I release the new version, I'd like to know if you want to be part of the Credits, if yes, tell me the name you'd like to use. I finally managed to make gprename display accents properly, the new gettext function broke it, I had to use the magic of the decode('utf8') function. If nobody objects and everyone can run gprename correctly, then let's make a new release, in about a week, there's not a lot of changes right now, but important ones for the debian package as Marvin Stark told me. If anyone forgot the URL to get revision 154 in SVN, well here it is :-) svn co https://gprename.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gprename gprename To test the new language, you have to call gprename that way : LANGUAGE=fr gprename Cheers Découvrez ce qui fait jaser les gens ! I have only ever used the gprename-install and, more recently, the more conventional configure/make/make install methods. The gprename.desktop file in /usr/share/applications is dated 28 May 2007, and must be from an earlier svn. I deleted it. > > Aha! So it is, thank you. You are right of course. This is an area that varies widely by project, from some projects almost requiring the later or latest nightlies for useful function, to other projects requiring developer credentials to even access the nightlies. My confusion came from the web-viewable url being clearly visible, while the command line url remained more within the developer knowledge set. ...And as I have stated before and is clearly obvious, I am not a developer ;-) A big thanks to Marvin Stark for project contributions! ____________________________________________________________________________________ Now that's room service! I really have no idea what modification has been done so that the field Work path doesn't work anymore, but as you say, this barely qualify as a problem ;-) > Incidentally, /usr/share/applications/gprename.desktop > is the only file in that directory set as executable; > perhaps this should be changed? How did you install the application, by default it's going to /usr/local/share not /usr/share and by default, the permission set on this file is 644 (see the file Makefile line 52) which is -rw-r--r-- so no executable. > > The URL > > http://gprename.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gprename > > is for viewing on the web the SVN repositery, like > > in Firefox, > > but it's not for checkout > > > > To get a local copy on your computer, the URL is > > still the same > > which can be found under the Code tab on the > > gprename webpage on > > sourceforge and it's the one you had in your history > > buffer: > > svn co > > > https://gprename.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gprename > > gprename > > Aha! Well, it was kind of hidden, like not on Wikipedia, not on the homepage, but it's a URL only for developers and there aren't that many, I prefer to keep these sites and the README more simple for anyone and 'hide' the SVN URL. I altered the KMenu command field as you suggested, and this does work, as I had previously verified. Your answer that GPRename never remembered the last open directory by itself, however, does narrow down the problem I mentioned. Namely, the 'Work path' field was at one time obeyed by GPRename upon startup from the KMenu entry, but is now ignored. Again, this 'problem' barely qualifies as a problem, and the workaround is sufficient to avoid it. Incidentally, /usr/share/applications/gprename.desktop is the only file in that directory set as executable; perhaps this should be changed? > The URL > http://gprename.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gprename > is for viewing on the web the SVN repositery, like > in Firefox, > but it's not for checkout > > To get a local copy on your computer, the URL is > still the same > which can be found under the Code tab on the > gprename webpage on > sourceforge and it's the one you had in your history > buffer: > svn co > https://gprename.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gprename > gprename Aha! So it is, thank you. You must admit, surely, that it was well hidden ;-) How would many users know to look there, when the home page and the wiki entries all point only to the web viewable one? ____________________________________________________________________________________ Get the free Yahoo! toolbar and rest assured with the added security of spyware protection. http://new.toolbar.yahoo.com/toolbar/features/norton/index.php |

Note that the KMenu entry > defines a specific (valid, permission-correct) startup > directory under 'Work path:' ... which the program > ignores. I don't think GPRename ever remembered your last directory after you closed the program. And if it did, that would be wrong. If I'm in /usr and I call gprename, close it, go into /usr/local and call gprename again, I want it to open in /usr/local and not /usr. So remembering the last directory wouldn't be a good thing. For the field 'Work path' in the KMenu, I'm unfortunately not familiar with it as I'm running Gnome, but you would have more chances to just modify the field Command from 'gprename' to 'gprename /my/directory', so that, when using the menu of KDE, it will always open at a specific directory. > Finally, perhaps I have too long pursued activities > alleged to promote blindness, but I don't see on the > wiki page or the website homepage a SVN url that works > from the command line. The URL http://gprename.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gprename is for viewing on the web the SVN repositery, like in Firefox, but it's not for checkout To get a local copy on your computer, the URL is still the same which can be found under the Code tab on the gprename webpage on sourceforge and it's the one you had in your history buffer: svn co https://gprename.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gprename gprename > --- Zurd <zu...@ya...> wrote: > > > In revision 150 I change the license from GPL-2 to > > GPL-3. > > > > This will definitely not affect anything, it just to > > say > > that gprename is always updated :-) > > > > > > Cheers Le tout nouveau Yahoo!
