Category: camlib/other Group: do not use this camlib/other Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Tobias (belshazzar) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Corrupts spca5xx THM files and fails further downloading Initial Comment: [Note that I wasn't sure whether this qualifies as a bug or should be considered a new feature, since the camera this is about is not supported at all, yet] [My initial request for support was put in this email on gphoto-devel, http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=10443440& forum_id=32960 , more details can be found there] The spca504b based camera JVC GC-A50 (8MB flash; USB) is partially supported by libgphoto2. The first JPG always downloads fine. However, in a series like the following $ gphoto2 -L There are 12 files in folder '/': #1 JVC-0001.JPG 0x0 image/jpeg #2 JVC-0001.THM 0x0 image/jpeg #3 JVC-0002.JPG 0x0 image/jpeg #4 JVC-0002.THM 0x0 image/jpeg #5 JVC-0003.JPG 0x0 image/jpeg #6 JVC-0003.THM 0x0 image/jpeg #7 JVC-0004.JPG 0x0 image/jpeg #8 JVC-0004.THM 0x0 image/jpeg #9 JVC-0005.JPG 0x0 image/jpeg #10 JVC-0005.THM 0x0 image/jpeg #11 JVC-0006.JPG 0x0 image/jpeg #12 JVC-0006.THM 0x0 image/jpeg gphoto2 stops at the second JPG with the following error: $ gphoto2 -P Downloading 'JVC-0001.JPG' from folder '/'... Saving file as JVC-0001.JPG Downloading 'JVC-0001.THM' from folder '/'... Saving file as JVC-0001.THM Downloading 'JVC-0002.JPG' from folder '/'... *** Error (-34: 'Error reading from the port') *** Looking at the already downloaded pictures shows that while JVC-0001. JPG is ok, JVC-0001.THM is actually a full-size JPG that is composed of the first JPG in the otp half and the following JPG in the bottom half. To provide insight into the problem a debug log was attached to the mail mentioned above and a USB snoop was obtained on Windows while performing several tasks: 3 pictures at 640x480 1 avi in the camera In the log is 1. Connecting the cam 2. Get preview 3. Download all files (picture 1-3 and the one avi) 4. Download picture No. 3 (JVC-0003.JPG) 5. Download the avi (JVC_0004.AVI) Screenshots of the situation while snooping are attached to the mentioned mail, the actual snoop has been uploaded here: http://rapidshare.de/files/21089468/4._The_actual_snoop.log.gz.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Tobias (belshazzar) Date: 2006-05-23 14:58 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1526621 I tried to selectively skip the even indexes when downloading with the intention to leave the THM files alone, as per a proposal by Marcus ( gphoto2 - p 1 -p 3 -p 5). It yields "-34 Error reading from the port" again. Log is attached [I had to trim out some JPG data from the log so that sf.net accepts the file, ie. < 256000B)]. Then I tried to delete the first picture, so that later pictures would percolate downwards. This yields error -6: 'Unsupported operation'. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tobias (belshazzar) Date: 2006-05-23 14:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1526621 I tried to selectively skip the even indexes when downloading with the intention to leave the THM files alone, as per a proposal by Marcus ( gphoto2 - p 1 -p 3 -p 5).
