Another very good document: f4hla.free.fr/informatique/CoolpixProtocol.pdf After some playing with Python, one of my Coolpix 4300 cameras, and an MC-EU1 serial cable, I have figured out (in my bumbling way) how to: - take 'bulb' exposures - erase images - download images to my Linux PC - read a few information registers Flaky protocol? You bet. Very slow image downloads? For sure. Fairly easy to implement? It seems so. Ideally, one of those DIY 'combo' serial/USB cables would be the way to go -- I suppose it would allow one to have the full 'bulb exposure' control of the serial protocol, and the much faster I/O of the USB protocol. However, I am *not* going to cut up my (expensive) serial cable to do this :) I think I saw references to the MC-EU1 protocol in the gphoto2 source code (?). Makes me wonder if any of the code lives in there already somewhere (?). Dare |
