Category: libgphoto2 Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Jim Nelson (yorbajim) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: camera auto-detect causes mouse jerkiness and to reset Initial Comment: We've received a number of reports on Shotwell where when it goes to auto-detect attached cameras the user's mouse stops responding momentarily. Looking at USB traces, it appears the mouse is being reset on the bus, which causes udev to report a new device has been attached, causing Shotwell to auto-detect .. and on and on. I've asked the users to try running gphoto2 --auto-detect without Shotwell and they can reproduce the problem consistently. My guess is that some devices don't do well when queried for capabilities information, causing them to fail and require a reset. The Launchpad bug for this problem is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/555408 Yorba's ticket for this problem is here: http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/2269 Note that USB bus traces are attached to the Launchpad ticket, as well as other information. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Martin Pitt (mpitt) Date: 2011-01-27 11:14 Message: In the further discussion in that bug it was suggested that libgphoto should avoid trying to detect HID devices, as they often don't like being probed the way libgphoto does and libmtp used to do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=108874&aid=3101045&group_id=8874 |
