In order to use photo2 on OS X (i.e. Apple mac) you need to kill off any programs that are already listening on the USB port (probably for camera connections). The error below: "Could not claim the USB" is symptomatic of having some other USB application owning the port. Typical OS X installations include some kind of PTP application (or maybe it was part of a Canon camera package I installed). To kill it, you might also have to become super-user using the "sudo" or "su" commands. If you are installing gphoto2 I assume you know how to do this, but for the record note that on fresh OS X installations the super-user must be enabled using the netinfo utility.
