Hi,
With the latest version (4.1.33) I am getting this error when GCSM starts. It wasn't there with the previous version. I had not changed how I start either GCSM or Outlook between versions.
When I do change the permissions to try and solve the error it still happens.

I'm a big fan of GCSM and how it helps me manage contacts so I hope you can resolve this, thanks.

did ypu see the following log info:

    2023-05-01 08:50:54 DBG CreateOutlookApplication (0x80080005)
2023-05-01 08:50:54 ERR Outlook and "GO Contact Sync Mod" are started by different users. For example you run Outlook with the "Run as administrator" option and "GO Contact Sync Mod" as regular user (or the other way around). This is not supported.
    2023-05-01 08:50:54 DBG Exception
System.NotSupportedException: Outlook and "GO Contact Sync Mod" are started by different users. For example you run Outlook with the "Run as administrator" option and "GO Contact Sync Mod" as regular user (or the other way around). This is not supported.

this might be your problem. Please assure normal start of both applications, at least same user.

    Hi, same problem here.

I havent changed anything either and i'm having the same issue with the same log info re 'different users'.

What i have discovered is that in my case this issue only occurs when outlook is not currently running and GCSM invokes outlook in order to select the folders. If i start outlook manually using the shortcut and then close and restart GCSM then everything works fine, so as a workaround for now i leave outlook open and all works normally.

When i check the details tab on task manager and add the 'elevated' column then i can clearly see that outlook is 'elevated' when invoked only by GCSM and not already running. GCSM is not 'elevated' and hence the problem.

I hope this sheds some light as i've no idea what has changed. I guess it might even be related to an office update.

For info, i'm running GCSM 4.1.33 and office click to run 2019 fully updated.

    Thanks Florian,
I've done what I can to set the same run properties for both Outlook and Go Contact Sync and it makes no difference.

Colin - thank you for your update. I had tried running manually but it didn't work until I saw your message about restarting Contact Sync first.

For now I have disabled running Contact Sync on startup and I open and run it manually after Outlook has started. Not ideal but at least it's something.

Hi, just to confirm, there have been several updates since to Microsoft Office but the problem remains, the 'Launch application at windows startup' does not work because of the 'different user' issue when GCSM invokes Outlook. As mentioned above, if Outlook is started first and then GCSM, everything works as it should. Any further suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks again for a very useful app!

I get same problem. When using Task Manager - Details I see that both Gocontactsync. exe and outlokk.exe are running with the same user. So the mesaage generated by Gocontactsync that the apps were started by different users is NOT correct.
When I exit Gocontactsync and restart it again the problem does NOT appear. So, it seems to be linked to Gocontactsync starting before Outlook has started

I also added outlook.exe to startup folder. After rebooting outlook now starts up automatically but I still get same error msg from jo contactsync. I checked task manager again and again both processes have SAME user id

I checked task scheduler and gocontactsync is NOT there. Why/how does it start automatically?

I just installed 2.4.1 and, after a bit of confusion, caused because I didn't understand the settings, it appears to be working well. In the settings, there is a check box to start it on Windows startup, and choices for how frequently to run it.
