MSYS (which is sooo kewl, thanks Ernie) has binaries that are unix-y already. I am installing redhat9 at the moment, ~using GNU Wget :)~ ,cuz I hopelessly hacked my redhat8 and cant write CDs w/o huge pain. When I am finished I will copy the msys binaries into the Gnoo-Nix (pokes at everybody) directories, and then offer the tar and possibly a Fat32 ISO image if I can get to it today. They will be on http://thinman.dyndns.org/win32. You just copy the exe and adm directories to your C (and c only) drive. This is cuz scripts start w/ C:/adm/bin/perl , zsh , etc I am basically w/ this ZSH/GNUwin32 product because I dont really think that the GPL really changes the way corp management thinks (redhat), and I respect the work of individuals much more. I would be tickled to see Msys grow into a full blown env, but I have very strong opinions about mounting root in the center of MinGW, I want root to equal C:/ and I want D:, E:, etc to be mounted via /etc/fstab to reasonable names like home or opt or cdrom. I seems that as to the forward and backward slashes, that is just a change of one character in the C code, nothing too extreme. But thats just my $0.02 USD. I understand that you would like the programs to print paths with backward slashes instead of forward slashes. It could be done, but in general, this would require a lot of adaptations, since many programs rely internally on the forward slash as path separator and also since it is not always easy to determine where the final output strings are created. Moreover, as far as I know, Zsh is one of the few programs that doesn't understand forward slashes. Of course, if demand for backward slashes would grow, and no-one objects to this change, it might eventually be done. In the meantime one can pipe output through tr '/' '\\'. Or one might change to a shell that understands forward slashes, such as MS-Windows Cmd.exe or Cygwin Bash. The little devil icon has been reported in many random sightings. I have been updating it w/ whatever I can find but I would like to migrate to a more logical build sequence. Your tools are, of course, a no brainer, but...the slashes go the wrong way. Its a mild annoyance, in most cases, no real harm done w/ one exception. find.exe The out put has to be piped through perl or sed to get the slashes the other way. This requires a wrapper, and well, thats a pain. I would not mind altering the code and compiling myself, but I have absolutely no mingw experience, nor have I ever really worked in C, perl and shell being my tools. What do you suggest ?? Well, Both got about the same capablities ASCII based description Scripting for actions. Calls to DLL:s Open Source code but when taken into acount ISStool A GUI interface to the script I prefer Inno since it takes me 10 minutes to write an installer from scratch using the ISSTool. Hi, A note on the packaging which are god but, on windows there is a limit on the length off the path variable so if all packages are getting their own directory under program then the length of the environment variable PATH will be to long. Therfor i sugest that you take the folowing approach in order to get to get it to work in the long run. 1) select a GNUWin32 base dir without spaces in the path, just to avoid problems "C:\GNUWin32" or something similar. 2) Organise the packages as folows <Base>/ bin/ As today with all files from the bin dirs lib/ As today with all files from the lib dirs contrib/ <package name> files form packages contrib. uninstall shield. doc/ share/ ... ... 3) I got some Scripts for "Inno setup" that does this at the moment. /Per Sandberg /running many systems |
