An MS-Windows (Win32) port of Popt-1.7 is available from http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net The popt library exists essentially for parsing commandline options. It is found superior in many ways when compared to parsing the argv array by hand or using the getopt functions getopt() and getopt_long() [see getopt(3)]. Some specific advantages of popt are: it does not utilize global variables, thus enabling multiple passes in parsing argv ; it can parse an arbitrary array of argv-style elements, allowing parsing of command -line-strings from any source; it provides a standard method of option aliasing (to be discussed at length below.); it can exec external option filters; and, finally, it can automatically generate help and usage messages for the application. |

On Windows XP Professional, graph seems to work well. E.g. the second of your commands, produces a valid gif file (a pink square within the unit square). Also with spline.xout from src/plotutils/test, graph -T gif <spline.xout >spline.gif, produces a valid gif file. Although the behavior of graph is affected by environment variables (see the documentation), none seems necessary for a proper functioning. So I gather the problem is related to a specific server condition. Hi, I have been trying the whole week to run the graph utility in a server using Windows 2000 Professional Edition but I can not get any graphic. I have tried with: graph -T gif -m 2 < prueba.txt > prueba.gif echo .1 .1 .1 .9 .9 .9 .9 .1 .1 .1 | graph -T gif -C -m 1 -q 0.3 > prueba.gif graph -T gif -S 3 0.1 < prueba.txt > prueba.gif graph -T gif -C -m -3 -S 4 < prueba.txt > prueba.gif echo 0 0 1 1 2 0 | graph -T gif -x -1 3 -y -1 2 > prueba.gif echo 0 0 1 1 2 0 | graph -T gif -x -1 3 1 -y -1 2 1 > prueba.gif echo 1 1 2 3 3 1 | graph -T gif -l x -x 1 9 2 > prueba.gif echo 1 1 2 3 3 1 | graph -T gif -l x -X "A Logarithmic Axis" > prueba.gif echo 1 1 2 3 3 1 | graph -T gif -X "Abscissa" -f 0.1 > prueba.gif But the result I get is an empty file. I have tried in other computers with windows 2000 (not Professional) and all the previous commands have worked. I would like to ask you if there is any environment variable that has to be taken into account when the OS is Windows 2000 Professional edition or if you may know which could be the reason of this problem. As I need to convert files containing x y pairs into graphics and place them in gif files as part of my project, and the conversion is not working, I am completely stopped. I would really apreciate your help. Best regards and thanks in advance, Carlos. |

Hi, I find very useful the fact that you distribute the documentation in = many formats. You may be surprised to receive this letter from me since you do not =

personally. I am Sodingo Malinga, the first son of Malinga Tawanda, the most
popular black farmerin Zimbabwe who was murdered in the land dispute in my
country. I got your contact through network online hence decided to write
you. Before the death of my father, he had taken me to Johannesburg to
deposit the sum of US12 million (Twelve million, United States dollars), in
one of the private security company, as he foresaw the looming danger in
Zimbabwe this money was deposited in a box as gem stones to avoid much
demurrage from security company. This amount was meant for the purchase of
new machines and chemicals for the Farms and establishment of
new farms in Swaziland. This land problem came when Zimbabwean President Mr.
Robert Mugabe introduced a new Land Act Reform wholly affecting the rich
white farmers and some few black farmers, and this resulted to the killing
and mob action by Zimbabwean war veterans and some lunatics in the society.
In fact a lot of people were killed because of this Land reform Act for
which my father was one of the victims.
It is against this background that, I and my family fled Zimbabwe for fear
of our lives and are
currently staying in the Netherlands where we are seeking political asylum
and moreso have decided to transfer my fathers money to a more reliable
foreign account. since the law of Netherlands prohibits a refugee (asylum
seeker) to open any bank account or to be involved in any financial
transaction throughout the territorial zone of Netherlands, As the eldest
son of my father, I am saddled with the responsibility of seeking a genuine
foreign account where this money could be transferred without the knowledge
of my government who are bent on taking everything we have got. The South
African government seems to be playing along with them.
outh African government seems to be playing along with them. I am faced
with the dilemma of moving this amount of money out of South Africa for
fear of going through the same experience in future, both countries have
similar political history. As a businessman,I am seeking for a partner who
I have to entrust my future and that of my family in his hands, I must let
you know that this transaction is risk free. If you accept to assist me and
my family, all I want you to do for me, is to make an arrangements with the
security company to clear the consignment(funds) from their afiliate office
here in the Netherlands as i have already given directives for the
consignment to be brought to the Netherlands from South Africa. But before
then all modalities will have to be put in place like change of ownership to
the consignment and more importantly this money I intend to use for
investmentment. investmentment.
I have two options for you. Firstly you can choose to have certain
percentage of the money for nominating your account for this transaction. Or
you can go into partnership with me for the proper profitable investment of
the money in your country. Whichever the option you want, feel free to
notify me. I have also mapped out 5% of this money for all kinds of expenses
incurred in the process of this transaction. If you do not prefer a
partnership I am willing to give you 15% of the money while the remaining
80% will be for my investment in your country. Contact me with the above
telephone number or my E-mail address I implore you to maintain the
absolute secrecy required in this transaction.
Thank you, and may GOD BLESS YOU
Yours Faithfully,

outh African government seems to be playing along with them. I am faced
with the dilemma of moving this amount of money out of South Africa for
fear of going through the same experience in future, both countries have
similar political history.

Thanks much for the comments Kees. Also, another fellow on a differnet list told me about this GSL exe file for v1.3 for use with mingw32. I will try it soon. He says: -------------------- A few days ago, I tried to get GSL working under windows (mingw32). I usually use Linux. Here is what I did: Download gsl from http://www63.tok2.com/home/bitwalk/src/gsl-1.3_006.exe Installation in C:\mingw. Then open a DOS box, go to c:\mingw and compile with: bin\gcc file.c -o file.exe -lgsl -lgslcblas ---------------------- So with all your help I should be able to get it straight. Thanks. John Boik |

An MS-Windows (Win32) port of JbigKit-1.5 is available from http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net JBIG-KIT implements a highly effective data compression algorithm for bi-level high-resolution images such as fax pages or scanned documents. JBIG-KIT provides a portable library of compression and decompression functions with a documented interface that you can very easily include into your image or document processing software. In addition, JBIG-KIT provides ready-to-use compression and decompression programs with a simple command line interface (similar to the converters found in netpbm). Changes between 1.4 and 1.5: - fixed two minor memory leaks (special thanks to Davide Pizzolato <ing...@li...> for locating one of these) - jbgtopbm does not attempt any more to parse multiple concatenated BIEs (options -m must be used now to enable this feature explicitely), in order to handle BIEs with data after the last expected SDE gracefully - various extensions to improve support of JBIG fax applications (ITU-T T.85 profile): o support for maximum adaptive template pixel offset increased to MX=127 in both encoder and decoder o encoder now has a hook for producing BIEs with a NEWLEN marker segment and VLENGHTH=1, in order to assist in testing decoders for T.85 conformance (see also new pbmtojbg option -Y) o a new function jbg_newlen() can be used to scan an entire in-memory BIE for NEWLEN marker segments and update the YD value in the BIE header, which can be applied to BIE data before passing it to the decoder for T.85 compliance (Background: the incremental design of the JBIG-KIT decoder makes it infeasible to look ahead for NEWLEN marker segments that occur after the SDE with the last image line, therefore this second pass is necessary to handle the old-style fax applications permitted by T.85 in which the low-RAM encoder doesn't know the height of the image at the start of transmission) |

You link in the same way as ordinary libraries. GCC automatically uses the import library for the dll if it's available. Look for a file named Gnuwin32-gsl-*.diffs in the root directory of the source of Gsl as distributed on Gnuwin32, for any differences with the original distribution. See also http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/compile.html Since there is also a Visual C++ release of Gsl, it is probably fairly portable. > Must I also download the header files if I want to write a C program that > uses GSL functions? Also, > how much slower might GSL run under mingw32 as compared to running it under > Linux? > Cygwin provides a Unix emulation layer for MS-Windows. So if you develop programs for Cygwin, anyone who uses your program, must install Cygwin. In itself this isn't too complicated, but they must keep up with new releases and also Cygwin binaries do not always work well together with native binaries. Of course, if you develop only for personal use, then this may be less of a problem. The Cygwin emulation layer adds some overhead, and especially on slower machines or with console output the differences may be noticeable. Of course, with very complicated programs or algorithms the differences may be much larger. Kees Zeelenberg |

The mktemp creates sometimes temporary names that are invalid on dos, and this causes some errors for example on autoconf. Someone can tell me or use autoconf with mingw/msys? I can´t make it work. I get this error: /mingw/bin/autom4te: No such file or directory But the file is there. |

Hi. After hours and hours of trying, Im writing to the list hoping to get some clarification for this newbie on getting GSL to work under windows/mingw32. I have downloaded and installed MSYS and mingw32, and have downloaded the GNUWin32 version 1.0 of GSL. But I am stuck. Where do I place the GSL? I know somewhere it says to place it in the program files path, but the GSL documentation says that it belongs in the /usr/local/include/gsl path, which in the windows case I assume would be within the MSYS directory structure. Is that correct? And whereever I place it, how do I tell windows (or MSYS) that it is even there? Do I need to put it into the windows path statement, or some sort of path statement used by MSYS? Does MSYS have some sort of update function when you change directory structures? Next, when compiling a C code, how do I link using the dlls? Or do I link using the libgsl.a files? I could really use some simple, complete, easy to follow instructions on this. It is very confusing to me, and the manuals that came with GSL etc are not of too much help. I have read the one page discussion on linking in the GSL manual many times. It assumes I know much more than I do and it does not give an example of using a dll. I am just a beginner and would really appreciate some help so that I could use GSL. Also, must I use the 1.0 version of GSL available at the mingw32 site or can I compile my own so that I can use the latest version? Is compiling the new version just a matter of downloading the source files and issuing the appropriate make commands, etc? Or are there certain things in the unix version of the GSL source code that do not port directly into compiling it under mingw32. Similarly, are there some functions of GSL that are not available in the mingw32 version? Must I also download the header files if I want to write a C program that uses GSL functions? What directory should I place them in? How does MSYS or windows know that they are there? Is WSYS the only interface to mingw32? It is funny to me, but in the web instructions to mingw32 it says to install it and type in some test commands. But where are you to type them in?? Into a dos prompt? Into the WSYS shell? The web page gives you no clue. Does mingw32 have its own shell? Lastly, I understand that it may be easier to get GSL to work with cygwin. But I also read that the executables made under cygwin are slower. Does anyone know how much slower they are, in general? 10x? 1,000x? 2x? Also, how much slower might GSL run under mingw32 as compared to running it under Linux? You can see that I am quite confused by all of this and I could really use some very clear instructions. I would be most grateful if anyone would be willing to lend a hand. Cheers, John |
