This has hit both my existing systems (which had been happily 
running Mandrake 9.2 for quite a while), and two brand-new
newly-installed Mandrake 10.0 systems.  So while it may be a
Mandrake configuration problem, it is not a question of out-of-date
versioning.  Also, it *had* been working until recently on the older
systems, and then something must have changed on the gnuplot
side that caused it to no longer work.
