Should 4.1 keep supporting pre-4.0 syntax?

Hello, everyone,

I was pointed to the fact that the current splash screen of 4.1
still contains this:

        This is gnuplot version 4.0.  Please refer to the documentation
        for command syntax changes.  The old syntax will be accepted
        throughout the 4.0 series, but all save files use the new syntax.

Obviously, "this" is no longer 4.1, nor is it the 4.0 series.  I thus
propose to remove this from the splash message, and turn off the old
syntax (--> turn off BACKWARDS_COMPATIBLE in setshow.h, code would stay
in for the time being).  Objections?
