I think this is caused by ghostscript's anti-aliasing technique being in use. These dots are considerably smaller than a screen pixel, so in the antialiased view, ghostscripts will display them not as black, but as the average of a small black dot and a large white rest of the pixel's area, coming out as a light gray. -- Hans-Bernhard Broeker (br...@ph...)
