Something I've never thought of, but interesting idea.  Are you thinking 
of combining plotted waveforms with a capability to listen to them, as 
in a speech processing scenario?

Of course, the problem is the long running history of PC's and various 
systems not having a standard audio interface.  Perhaps that has changed 
in the recent past, but judging from the last time I went though buying 
a computer it didn't seem like it.
