My $.02 worth:

I dislike having stripped executables, because if something goes
wrong you get essentially zero information to help you report or
fix the problem.  The small increase in disk space is a minor price
to pay for having debuggable programs.  

Anyone who want to run 'make install-strip' is free to do so, of course,
but I would not like to see it made the default.
