I might give it a go. To Emacs users and I'm sure they are quite a few here I can recommend `erc' (for ERC, Emacs IRC) if anyone is unaware of it. Also built-in in vanilla GNU Emacs is `rcirc' which you get with M-x irc RET. I have no experience from it but my friends on gmane.emacs.help says it's good, and I believe them, however ERC seems more common these days.
