./prepare is now running as intended, also my configure

./configure --without-lisp-files --with-readline=gnu --without-x 
--disable-mouse --disable-x11-mbfonts --disable-binary-x11-polygon

is running smoothly and the best:  the generated binary gnuplot.exe 
outputs plots as it should!

PS: for the record: my system is a Windows XP with cygwin installation
