[Gnuplot-info] data processing

Hello,

 

I have a question about data processing. I have a lot of experimental data
and I want to process them. One of the things I have to do is to obtain the
roots (x=0 and y=0) of my data (without fitting them). So in other words, I
have to obtain the y-value of the point that is closest to the x-axis, and
the x-value of the point closest to the y-axis. Is this possible to do with
gnuplot?

you need gnuplot version >= 4.4

xmin = 999999.
ymin = 999999.
# plot something
set table
plot 'datafilename' using
(abs($1)<xmin?xmin=$1:0,$1):(abs($2)<ymin?ymin=$2:0,$2)
unset table
print xmin
print ymin

I think this can be done with some ugly hacking in any version of gnuplot. See
the link below.
