[Gnuplot-info] Histogram plot with special xtics placement

Hi all,

currently, I'm trying to plot some simple data using a histogram plot.
The data file is very simple, too:

#  value |  occurences1  | occurences2
1   5709    165
2   11663  1688
3   0    7563
# ...

I managed to get a basic plot by using:

set style data histogram
plot  'Data.dat' using 2:xticlabels(1), "" using 3

This is a frequency distribution plot, showing how often a value was
measured.
What I don't like are the xtics placed centered below the data rows:

It is possible to set the labels (first column) centered *between* two xtics
and also plot the data row centered?

I'll try it in ASCII art:

   |
   ||    ||
|-----|-----|-----|
   1   2    3

I'm afraid for this special plot, the xtic placement done by Excel in a bar
chart is much more pleasing. Nevertheless I don't want to enter Excel's
"export-diagramm-hell".

set 'gap' to an odd number:
set style histogram gap 3
