[Gnuplot-info] xtics not working with autoscale

Hello,
I am getting kind of desperate because the xtics command does not work for me. I
only want a few ticks on the x-axis, but there are way to many. Why does xtics
100 does not change the xtic increment?? My file looks like this:

set title 'BRISMF performace measurement results'
#set boxwidth 0.3
#set style fill solid 1.000000 border -1
#set bmargin 3
set xlabel 'seconds'
set ylabel 'RMSE'
set tics scale 0.0
set grid y
set xtics font 'Arial,8'
#set xtics 4000
unset xtics
set xtics 100
set offsets 1, 1, 2, 0
unset autoscale
set autoscale ymax
set autoscale x
set yrange [0:*]
set key autotitle columnhead
plot 'results.dat' using 1:xticlabels(2) with lines title 'CUDA accelerated'

Any help would be apprciated...

Because that is what you actually told gnuplot to do.

Oh, but it does.  But you then went on and asked gnuplot not to use any 
numerical xtics at all:

> plot 'results.dat' using 1:xticlabels(2) with lines title 'CUDA accelerated'

Your use of xticlabels() here is completely at odds with what you expect 
to happen.
