[Gnuplot-info] Ionosphere's maps using Gnuplot

Dear, 
   
  I am Brazilian student, and I work with production of ionosphere's maps. 
I'm trying to plot a 2D data file on a surface (3D data file) using Gnuplot. I'm using the function "pm3d" to interpolation of 3D file (xyz.dat), and the function "splot" to plot both files. I don't be able of plot 2D (Brazil contour) data files on a surface.
It's possible? What's the function I can use?

What you're looking for would be a variation of

	set pm3d explicit
	set view map
	splot 'contour' using 1:2:(0.0) with lines, \
               'surface' using 1:2:3 with pm3d
